Tomb Raider Developer Prepping An "Exciting New IP"
You probably know that Crystal Dynamics is currently working on the highly anticipated Tomb Raider reboot.
What you might not know is that Lara's new adventure isn't the only project the studio has in the hopper. In fact, according to the Square Enix Members Blog, Crystal Dynamics will celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2012, and they'll do so in fine fashion.
It seems they've got a big new IP to reveal and studio boss Darrell Gallagher says 2012 will be the "biggest year in Crystal's history." He added:
"We have a ton of great content lined up from our teams and we can’t wait to pull the wrapper off some of the amazing things we have been putting all of our efforts into."
We can always use new IPs and this team really seems to be kicking it into high gear. Everything we've seen of the new Tomb Raider appears skillfully crafted and extremely promising; it remains on our "most anticipated" list for the year, and we ardently hope for the successful return of an industry icon. We'll also be interested in the new project...any guesses as to what Crystal might try? Another action/adventure title or something completely different? It's wait and see time...

but their remake of tomb raider was beautiful, playing almost like uncharted series is now (ie. jumping and the "super attacks" interactive cutscene and thoroughly loved their adrenaline dodge headshot attacks and the grappling hook is very fun to use
anyone who doesn't have the trilogy pack, i reccommend, great hd upscaling of anniversary and legend plus underworld which i hope to get to before spring semester
keep up the good work cd!

As for what type of game this new IP will be I imagine it will be a third person action/adventure game. Hmm....I'm not sure why but I have this feeling a futuristic/sci-fi setting is a real possibilty.
Playstation Plus members were able to download Tomb Raider Underworld last month. Ofcourse it was developed by CD as well. It was not half bad. Positives include the graphics, and large levels. The graphics were great considering the was released in 2008. It would appear that CD has a firm grasp on the PS3's hardware. Negatives include a twitchy camera, dull story, and control issues. Sometimes Lara just didn't want to cooperate which can be frustrating and lead to cheap deaths. Enemy types and combat were VERY limited as well.
Anyways it seems CD has some work to do on some of the negative issues I mentioned above if they want to make a true AAA titile.
