Considering Nintendo unleashed the Wii U last year at E3, sony having a their North American Vita launch this year and recently for japan, My guess is Sony will introduce a brand new console.

Microsoft might launch a new console (80% in my guess) or a they might enter the handheld market which they have not done yet (20%)

that is my guess for new consoles.

MS have already said they don't want to enter the handheld market. With competition between Nintendo, Apple and Sony, MS are just gonna promote Windows Phone 7 and try to tie that with their future Xbox's.

This truly will be a historic E3. Honestly, I'm not ready for the PS4, but I completely agree with Sony getting it out of the gate ASAP. If they give Microsoft another 1-year lead, they'll most likely come second next generation, too. Both systems will most likely have an impressive show as far as the consoles themselves go, but what it really comes down to is the games and I think Sony's going to win first prize in that round. I feel quite confident that God of War IV and Uncharted 4 will be announced for the PS4 in some way or form. Just like God of War II closed out the PS2's major games, The Last of Us will close the PS3's. I do hope The Last Guardian arrives this generation and doesn't get pushed back to the PS4, though.

Yhea, I feel similarly; I am really not ready for a PS3... it really is too soon. I do have this nagging feeling though that maybe, just maybe, sales may struggle initially if people are currently satisfied with the tech they have now.

Why move if the games remain at this quality. Incredible to think that we have to move on. I guess Battlefield 4 would be a pretty big system seller for a next gen console, not mention the slew of new exclusives Sony will make for a PS4.

I am almost convinced now that we will not see an Uncharted 4 on the PS3; I think it will be made for the PS4 and be used to show people why the Sony and the PS4 will remain on top of their game...

I may be the only one who thinks this but I sincerely hope that Sony drops backwards compatiblity completely from the PS4. I believe that trying to make a brilliant new system that still works with all the old software will keep us from achieveing the incredible heights the next-gen should take us too.
Go all out Sony and make us something completely new and amazing. After all, most people won't be just throwing away their PS3 once the new console releases, so we will still have that for playing our old games.
Reach for the stars Sony, not just the sky.
But steer clear of proprietary tech, leave HDD open for upgrade, that is one idea that should remain.

They should come out with it soon so DEVS can perfect the system and make better looking games, also we dont want limited titles with a $400 - $500 new console like before.

I'd rather Xbox use blu ray, that way both Xbox and PS4 can have much better more epic and bigger games. I read somewhere that the new xbox will use blu ray and it will be called Xbox infinity, or somewhere along those lines. But don't take my word for it. What I read could be very wrong.

From what I've heard, Xbox do not intend to use Blu-ray. They will instead do 2 things, either:

1. Introduce a new optical disc format for Xbox games only whilst still supporting DVD.

2. Make bigger games download only, via Games on Demand.

A third possible option up MS' sleeve is streamed gaming, similar to On Live. Problem is it would cut out a large chunk of the market who continue to rely on physical media discs for gaming.

They will have to think of something similar to HD-DVD, maybe they'll do that for there Xbox machine (games only). All streaming wouldn't be the way to go obviously, not everybody has the fastest connection out there.

I don't know if I'm ready for the next console cycle quite yet, but it's definitely exciting to think about! Oh who am I kidding? I'd buy it the moment it hit store shelves!

All I have to say is Sony better come out swinging if they wanna steal te show from Microsoft! Not that Microsoft will have a better showing (if this happens) but they have the momentum and a following that is ridiculously loyal, and would believe anything!

I think they'll all show something this year, but the Nexbox & PS4 will be another year before they're actually released.

And I'm hoping the PS4 won't be any higher than around a $299 to $349 price range, depending how much new or additional tech has been added into it.

But whatever the prices are on the 3 systems, I'll still most probably wait about a year or two after each console's been released before I buy them. And to save on costs, I will buy the PS4 new, but the other two will be bought as refurbs only.

BTW, there's nothing wrong with refurbs, both my PS1 & PS2, plus my original Xbox are all refurbs & they're still working as good today as the first day they were manufactured).

Oh, and my new 60GB(now 750) is a GS refurb with a additional 2 year warranty, plus I picked up another 2 year warranty for the 750 HD itself inside too.

As far as I've seen while on my wild game hunts over the many years, even reputable site's sale prices have never beaten a good refurb price, & not even close either.

Plus what ever was originally wrong with that console was completely fixed, by either replacement, and/or repair.
And then the entire unit is thoroughly tested, including any scratched or scuffed outer casing itself too. When you buy a refurb from a reputable site, you're actually getting just about a brand new machine for just cents on the dollar.

BTW, I could place a new PS3 & a refrub side-by-side & with the reburb sticker taken off, you'd be mighty hard-pressed even after inspecting & testing out both, to pick out which one was the refurb & which one was the brand new one.

but form gamestop and ebgames maybe most of the time it could be alright. But i would make sure all parts work and clean the ps3 out throughly before i used it.

That's all part of the refurb process & already done before it ever goes our for re-sale.
Plus reputable sites/stores will give you anywhere between a 3 month to 1 year warranty.
I used to buy Sony's own refurbs from GameStop, but for some reason GameStop has stopped selling Sony-done refurbs & now GS does their own refurbs themselves.
Anyway, GS's refurbs are good too, plus they've upped their 3 old warranty into a 1 year warranty now.

i'm not ready for a ps4 yet. i love my ps3 and not quite done with games yet. what i know for sure is that i'll wait for the price drop when they decide to clear away the launch models. that way i'll end up with cheaper ps3 with the best configuration. hopefully theyre still about a year away. that doesnt mean i wont buy ps4 games. i'll buy them on the cheap too right before they roll out those damn red boxes.

theres something i want to happen but probably wont though. i want ps3 user to be able to play with ps4 users. they'll make a game available for ps3 and ps4. single player wise ps4 has the edge but online is practically the same on both systems with the ps4 having additional options.

Even though I only have about 5 red boxes out of my 178 PS3 games, those just throw off the whole look of my collection.

And for myself, the newer color & different PS3 font right at the top of the side edge too help throwing off the look too, also help to irk me too, LOL.

Plus all of the above also goes for my PS2, 360, & original xbox collections too...ARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!

I've managed to avoid any red boxes, though I buy almost every game at GH prices and timing (i.e., after 8 months or more). I too hate the inconsistency on my shelf.

It took me forever to find a non-used Crack In Time in the clear box, but it only cost $15 when I did.

Kinect games, kids games, Kinect functionality in hardcore games that no one cares about, Halo 4 gameplay (fans go wild... again),
THEN the big announcement of a new console!! Some random gameplay footage, Halo demo on next gen Xbox, Peter Molyneux yacks on about the possibilities that will most likely never happen.

Sony E3 show:
New exclusive game demos, Dust 514 gameplay, Move games (both hardcore and casual), possible God of War 4 announcement (Please!!!) Vita prce drop, exclusive Vita game announcements, a couple of new PS3 exclusives...
THEN the new PS4 unveiling!!! Uncharted demo or pre-rendered video, tech demos, new physics-based LBP demo on PS4, Motorstorm demo on PS4, a few new exclusives for PS4, info on Move support and possible backwards compatibility with PS3. Vita support, Sony tablet support making touch screen controllers (Wii U style) unnecessary. Playstation Network overhaul for PS4 release, more online content, cross game chat free on PSN, more awesome services for PS Plus subscribers.

So long as they bring the games and don't come out last, PS4 will hopeully be popular on release. I hate that I was forced to get a 360 to play with friends. I only know 1 friend with a PS3.

I think people are hedging way too much on who hits the scene first. I've been gaming a long time and first out hasn't proven to be first place. Ask NEC, SEGA, and Panasonic about that.
I have no doubts if the the 360 shipped with it's originally intended 256mb of RAM the landscape right now would be very different today. Also, if MS rushed a system out with garbage half-done games that wouldn't bode well either. Hitting the scene first is just one variable of many. People seem to forget that so much of MS's early success can be placed squarely on Halo and XBox LIVE. Xbox LIVE's excitement carried right into the excitement of 360. The original Xbox launched without it, in fact, it took a few years to even get Halo online.
I say, the wiser move is to position the better product with the better games at the right price with the right message. Screw the belief that first out of the gate takes first place.

This generation of consoles is far from dead. There are a handful of games in the pipeline that I'm really looking forward to like The Last Of Us, GTA5, Hitman: Absolution, Thief 4 and Mass Effect 3. As a core gamer though I can't help but get excited about the prospects of next gen. consoles from Sony and MS that will be much more powerful than current consoles. I just hope MS can swallow their pride and put Blu-Ray in the Nextbox so that multi-platform games wont be limited to DVD capacity again.

I get a little confused when some are saying they aren't ready for the next gen since all of Sony's consoles to date didn't stop making games right away when the next one came out. We're actually pretty lucky to not have to rush out right away and still enjoy some more games before moving on unlike the other competitors.

I seriously believe I am gonna play my PS3 console for another 5 years+ or until the Blu-Ray gets phased out. Before then, I truly do not believe I would be interested in looking anything further, for I do not think anything can be more sharper and clearer than 1080P blu-ray HD video on 2D screen....at least nothing in the world has indicated otherwise... and the 3D world or Hologram is another different dimension which do not interest me much.

This is all rumors, but if true, it'd be too soon. The PS3 can still manage, though, Sony must keep up with Microsoft.

What I expect from a new console is an easier to understand system for one. Multiplat titles suffered on the PS3, for the most part, so Sony will make sure that this new console won't be as difficult to work on. I'm scared that the PS4's power won't be as major a difference as it is between the 360 and PS3 but I'd rather they sacrifice a few things to make a better console overall for the developers. The happier the developers, the better the product. And we all know what that means!

My question is will the new Xbox games look as good as Uncharted 3, Killzone 3, MGS 4 or GoW 3? If the answer is barely, I wouldn't mind if Sony wait a year to put out a new console. If it meant that we would get atleast one year where multiplatform games look close the games I mentioned. Xbox people will be happy with whatever they get, a year later Sony comes out the gate with a system with newer tech than their competitor (just like this gen) and another year of quality assurance (Don't want to go through 5 systems like my cousin and his 360s). *Newsflash* The 360 has multiple disk games but there are none on the PS3? Does anyone else here think thats funny? Hell Uncharted 1 & 2 fit on 1 bluray right, or is that on 2? But as the years go on in the next generation of systems will multiplat developers be held back by the limitations of the future Xbox if Sony waits a year like they have been this gen? One year, its such a short time but it really does make a difference if you look at the exclusive titles. It looks like a good move for Sony to not be late to the market as far as sales go too. Most people just stick with one console, usually the first one they can get, its not such a stretch to say that once theres a Xbox in a house the chances of them also getting a PS3 goes down. I'll get a PS4 when it comes out but unless multiplat devs are ready to work as hard as Playstation's starting line up I can't see it getting that much better, especially if Xbox keeps on using DVDs next gen.

What I want from a PS4- games burned on multiple layer blurays (Quad layers or This :) - http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/newsroom/news/news/500GB_Bluray/index.html ) so developers have all the space they need. Maybe the more layers they use on a disk the more a game would cost to cover extra expenses? More memory and a more functional web browser, thats it.

I would expect Sony to stick with Blu Ray for a while longer. The public recently began embracing Blu Ray and trying to promote another format at this point would be a mistake. And I believe Sony has already said that their next console would still use physical media. I'm hoping that the PS4 will support the really big quad layer blu ray discs. But Microsoft on the other hand I seriously doubt will be embracing Blu Ray. I would expect the next Xbox to be one of three things:

A. Some kind of suped up kinect integrated system.

or

B. A disc-less digital only system.

or

C. Some kind of combination of A and B.

But any of the 3 would be risky for Microsoft for two reasons. First I believe that it's still too soon for digital-only consoles. And second the original Kinect is still riding high and therefore it's too soon to introduce a new one. Introducing a new and better one at this point would probably cause at least some people to start crying foul.

But no matter what the new consoles may be I would still expect Sony to have one considerable advantage in the next generation: first and second party development. Sony has put a great deal of time and effort toward developing their exclusive catalogue and expanding their first party development base. Microsoft on the other hand I believe is becoming too dependent on third party development and is probably relying on kinect to compensate. But this strategy is risky. If the Wii is any indication then the public will eventually grow bored with kinect and if things stay the way they are now that would likely leave Microsoft up the creek without a paddle.

Microsoft seems to be more of a here and now company while Sony tries to think ahead. I think this might give Sony an edge in the next generation.

Joking, it's a good move to unleash information now for hype, if not to release it this year. I wish to see Sony prime in their ways again. They now have a nice list of first party developers they can rely on to bring the artillery; beforehand they relied on mostly 3rd party publishers, and ever since the breaking of the cycle (Microsoft's unsoundly early release) in help causing the "demise" of the Japanese gaming industry, these publishers turned their backs on Sony to survive. Well, they believed so. But they're not here to see what we feel.

Anyway, to the point: of course Sony will keep their promise to have a 10 year lifespan for the PS3; infact I also hope you've all noticed Sony's pattern:

-PS1 (released 1994)
-PS2 (released 2000)
-PS3 (released 2006)

That's 6 years. The next turn is now; would be epic to see it for Christmas.

Pretty sure that 10 year lifespan means that it'll keep "living" on for another 4 years.

That has been shown quite prominently by the PS2. Hell I'm still playing the living hell out of it.

I know the PS2 is still alive and well, and hte PS3 will be too after the 4 comes out, but I can't help but wonder about the time it'll take away from the devs on the 3. And I really don't want a new system yet.

I just meant a LOT of people still have and play their ps2s. I'm just not not ready to run out and buy another system, even a year from now.

Frankly I don't care.... I've seen the "next-gen" (PS3/360) and while a handful of games are great (I don't play first person shooters or sports)... it was a disappointing generation compared to it's predecessors and I find myself barely playing anything anymore. The the "new-next-gen" - more focus on graphics and profit. Geez, I remember I was soooooooooo excited when I saw the trailer for FFVII being showed of on the PS3 and had the best of hopes... what a disappointment. Still will follow the news with min hopes

I'm not really ready for a new system but again i wasn't when the PS3 was announced but i got it day 1 and i never regretted that purchase. We'll see what they bring out E3 but until they announce it at E3 i won't believe anything.

I just hope the price of games themselves don't see an uptick as they did when they switched from the PS2 to the PS3... we went from $49.99 for a new game to $59.99; who's to say that a new game for a PS4 won't be priced at $69.99? We've already seen Sony price-gouging on the memory cards for the new Vita, and I could see them making an argument that PS4 games "can do so much more" than PS3 games, etc. Just some food for thought...

For me a key factor is Metal Gear... I did not buy a PS3 until a Metal Gear Solid game was announced. Until MGS5 comes out for the PS4.. no buy.

I dont care when it comes out, I have a huge backlog because of my physical activities that take me from 100 ft under the ocean shooting huge fish on a breathhold,to the top of mammoth skiing my butt off. Whats most important to me is that it works,dosent melt,lets me save my game saves and reload them off an external drive without losing hundreds of hours of game play....and it will run a game like skyrim, also it would be good to know that developers can write the game without us having to have crappy XBOX ports. I love the PS3, the color rendition is much richer. I love my headphones ect ect.Im sorry but to be safe I feel Im forced to buy exclusives only. I dont do minis, pS 1 OR 2 games unless I put an oldie on my PSP, all two of them.. I dont do VITA or GO.. no need. Backlog on the PSP too and I wont repurchase my library to put it on a new device. Getting ready to fire up a little personna 2 right now. So to sum it up It dosent matter when it comes out,as long as it comes out well. For me,there couldent be anything that goes with it that is a "must have' right now. I hope it makes huge leaps of advances and works well. I can wait if they need to get it right. I can wait for both of them. I know its been a while but I thought this console was supposed to have a longer lifespan?So advanced that it would be years till a new model. It looks like we seem to be trailing computer gaming and the developers start to make games for desktops, primarily, we are forced to upgrade to keep up. For ports?
I guess if the machine is priced right it would still be worth a purchase for 2-3 exclusives a year that are worthwhile. I can only think of about 10 games that really grabbed me over the last 5 years that were exclusives maybe less.
So bring it on we need a little SONY magic these days.

i don't even have the PS3 or an xbox 360 yet geese well as long as they are backwards compatible that is all i care about. if it is it would make the purchase justifiable because i want a PS3 and a 360 so that i can play tales and ni no kuni, oh and a few other jrpgs.

This will be great, the Wii U should be outclassed by at least one of them.

And the PS3 prices will go down after the PS4 comes out so its all good. Now i wonder if theyl have Backward compatibility at launch or not...

Sony better make sure that they work out all and I do mean all of the kinks before they push the PS4 out to compete with the new Xbox. I play the hell out of my PS3 and I don't think am gonna stop even if the PS4 comes out. Come on folks The Last of Us hasn't even hit the store shelves yet and that's a game i definitely want to play. I think its still not time for the PS4. I think that we are maybe two to three years away from a PS4 and maybe two years from new a Xbox system.

Too Soon. I can wait I have waited before.
I waited enjoying to PS2 until I was able to afford the $299 250GB PS3 about two years ago.
I will do the same with the PS4. I got a job, and enjoy a lot of TV, and Movies, so I am behind on a lot of good PS3 games, so I can wait again for the PS4.
The PS3 is great and I can't imagine what the PS4 will have to get me to buy it at release unless it has a brain controller or virtual reality.

I wonder if this is coming from the same "reliable" source that has said the new systems will be at E3 for the past 2 years...

I ain't holding my breath on this one, personally they (both Sony and micro&soft) can hold off another year or 2 before announcing anything, than another year or 2 before release...
