ICO, Shadow Of The Colossus Become New PSN Legends

We ardently hope Fumito Ueda finishes The Last Guardian. And we absolutely adored the high-definition beauty found in the ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection.

But maybe you'd rather revel in the original artistic gorgeousness. A day after announcing Killzone for the PSN, Sony has another great announcement: both ICO and Shadow of the Colossus will hit the Network on January 17!

They can be downloaded for $19.99 each, which is essentially the cost of a Greatest Hit PS2 title back in the day. If you missed out, these are two of the most revered and accomplished productions of the previous generation; both are epitomes of creativity and artistic inspiration, and both deliver memorable adventures. We'd probably recommend the HD Collection for $39.99 - as that makes more sense to us - but more greatness on the PSN is always appreciated.

If you go looking for bad deals on the PSN, you'll find them. However they also have very good deals, especially for PS Plus members. For example, before Christmas they had Red Dead Redemption GotY for $25, which is $15-$20 less than it currently is on Amazon.

Some people like to say that the PSN (and downloadable retailers in general) never has any deals and always has every game for full price, but that's simply nit true. Just like any other retailer, it has great deals on some games, but doesn't for other games.

the two greatest adventures and most artistic and unique games on PS2 and I have platinumed both in their HD collection before Christmas. Right now, I am looking to platinum the MGS HD collection, working on the Peace Walker Gold Trophie for MGS3.

Absolutely the best two HD collection for 2011 - The ICO/SOTC and MGS HD collection.

Was it hard to plat MGS? Or is it hard?

the MGS2 and MGS3 are little easier as the games were little shorter and the trophies are less demanding. for Peace Walker, it is kinda hard, especially for the Gold Trophy involving completing all the mission in S rank, considering how many missions peace walker has both the main one and optional ones. so that is demanding. I am not sure whether I can in fact plat Peace Walker, but I definitely look to plat MGS2 and MGS3, the bronze trophies most earned from killing boss or performing a CQC tech or achieve a certain perks. for MGS2, there are two gold trophies are hard too, the one with clear all the VR mission and alternative mission might be time consuming, and also clear the game without enter alert mode might be tough too. so yeah, lots of work ahead. :D

In MGS2 you have to get all the dog tags which means playing the game a lot of times, on every difficulty. MGS3 you can get in one playthrough, albeit it's quite a thorough one.

Peace Walker...yah what BigBoss said. Time consuming.

I was thinking on platting all games on the collection, but I feel like it will:-)ruin the games for me as ill be focused on the trophies and not the game itself. There is a lot of work, I know! Cant believe people wanted trophies for MGS4, I bet Hideo would of made it impossible.

Ben, judging from your recommendation to get the HD Collection, might I assume that the PSN only has the PS2 versions?

Well, yeah. The non-HD original versions.

That's unfortunate. With the HD collection out for the same price, I can't imagine there would be much support for this. I was really hoping that Sony would have released the HD versions, like they did for GoW I and II.

This is actually a pretty confusing move to me. If Sony was going to put forth the effort of converting these games to a digital format, why wouldn't they use the superior HD versions, which were already available?

...especially since the other PS2 classics have been $10.

Are you absolutely sure these releases aren't the two HD versions separated like the 3 SC games last week (and others previously)?

Okay, lemme get this straight. Sony wants $20 a pop for the PS2 incarnations of these two games. Two games that just came out significantly enhanced on a single disc, remastered in HD and 3D with trophy support and an improved frame rate, for the same asking price as both of the outdated versions. Yeah, I'm not thrilled by this marketing.

This is great but I would really like to own the box and discs for these great games. I have not played them yet but I will. I am looking to buy this at some point in 2012. Probably around May when new game arrivals slow down. March has Mass Effect 3, Max Payne 3 and Dragons Dogma, I am really interested in this. April has Prototype 2 which I am still on the fence about. June has Sly 4 and StarHawk arriving!

Sweet! Should be $15 a piece but they'll probably drop soon enough.

I knew these two games would eventually release on the Playstation Store (Sony seems to be beefing up the Playstation Network lately). Jak and Daxter HD downloads will be next. Guaranteed.

Hopefully Sony offers one of (or both of) these two as a free Playstation Plus offer. I already have the disc but playing either one from my hard drive would be awesome.

I'd rather have my games in disc format, especially such iconic games as these two are.

Matter of fact, about 4 months ago, I paid $40 for a mint "never opened" ICO(& another $10 for a mint strategy guide just to have it in my collection).

That's bullshit, those were the prices how many years ago? Those games weren't even all that great either, the story sucked on both games. Besides, isn't the PS2 classics supposed to be $9.99 each. What a load of wank.

ICO & SOTC weren't that great. sure man whatever you say why don't you go play MW3 or something because you clearly have no appreciation for good videogame design
