Dead Island DLC Offers New Character And New Weapons

It was one of the most popular games of 2011 and if you're looking for an excuse to dive back into the fray, Deep Silver has good news.

Today, the publisher has announced a new mission-based piece of downloadable content for Dead Island. It'll be available on January 31 on both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace for $9.99 and and 800 Microsoft Points respectively.

Here's the DLC description from the press release:

"The Ryder White DLC campaign follows the story and perspective of the main game’s antagonist character and allows players to experience the events on Banoi through his eyes. Players will take on the role of Ryder White as a playable character in a single player campaign with several hours of gameplay as well as brand new weapon blueprints."

Dead Island was one of those games that really got people involved. Despite the drawbacks, there was an addictive "gotta kill more zombies" quality that we certainly appreciated, and any single-player DLC is definitely a plus in our books. That's something developers need to produce more of, if we're going to get excited about fresh content.

Naksy: If you think open-world, quest-centric zombie killing sounds fun, Dead Island is for you.

Sure there are some minor issues, but overall it's a fun experience. I've probably logged 10-15 hours so far, and I'm only at about 25% with no freezing or game-breaking glitches.

Most definitely. Plenty of fun with the single player and co op. Type of game where you can just hop right in and start having fun, with options of different tasks. Fun game. I picked this game up for $29 on sale at Future Shop.

@TheWuziMu Does the zombie killing get repetitive or does it keep you wanting more?

Definitely worth it, especially since they patched up the bugs I ran into because mine was preordered... so yeah, price drop and patches make it something I'd recommend.

I'd not so unreservedly say it's worth it. It's extremely repetitive and not that challenging, just... Repetitive.

I'd clearly recommend it if you are into zombie/splatter movies. Then it's a game for you. It's got a very well created typical "c-movie atmosphere".

In coop it's an alright game (simply due to most things being more fun in coop), but I'd never bothered playing it for long had it been a single player game only.
... In my opinion, of course.

I haven't gotten to Dead Island yet, but when I do, I'll be sure to pick this up. It looks like a very interesting and fun bit of DLC and I almost always try to support single-player, story-based add-ons.

When I played Dead Island back in September. I enjoyed it a lot. At first this game has online problems. They are now fixed and you can play with up to four friends online. It is totally worth it because killing zombies and leveling up is always a lot of fun. The amount of weapons in this game is crazy. Also there is a Blood Bath Arena DLC with infinite number of zombies it sounds cool but I have not tried it. Get it when you have time!

Really nice to see a developer concentrating on DLC for single mode players for a change, instead of always doing MP only modes.

"Kudos to Deep Silver for that"!!!!

hmm I was thinking to play Mass Effect 2 for another round. But now I am thinking of buying all of the Dead Island DLC and play them.

I really enjoyed DI, so I know it isn't wasted money.
