Rumor: Sledgehammer Cranking On Next-Gen Call Of Duty?

It's hard to know what Sledgehammer Games is working on.

We knew they helped Infinity Ward in the development of last year's mega blockbuster, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. We had also heard they might be creating an action/adventure CoD installment, a project that seems to have been canceled.

So what's the latest studio update? Well, according to 360 Magazine, a new job posting at the studio's website hints that Sledgehammer is actually working on the first next-generation Call of Duty. It'd come as no shock that Activision will bring the most popular franchise ever into the new generation, but it'd be very interesting if Sledgehammer was solely responsible for it.

Chances are, though, they're once again working with Infinity Ward on the project. Treyarch should be delivering what could be the last current-gen CoD effort later this year. We're not sure how this will play out, but we do have a question: if you're making a next-gen CoD, you're also creating a new engine. Right? I mean...no way that 2005 engine is gonna make the transition to the next generation. No way.

I am sure there's a lot of pressure on them because they have to create an engine that will be rehashed for another ten years.....

I wouldn't be surprised. What once was a great series has progressively gotten worse until MW3 was nearly unplayable.

A couple of decent moments, but it felt like a 14 year old wrote a fan fic.

The online level design was atrocious as well. Black Ops was a regression, but MW3 was the first time I felt like I was wasting time.

So glad I borrowed MW3 from my buddy and didn't blow 60 bones on it.

Agree with Alexander.

To say Modern Warfare 3 is unplayable is just absurd, but it's by no means a fantastic game. It does its' job of being enjoyable but that's about it.

I can honestly say I don't wholefully hate cod, but rather I hate activision and their high priced business model, if they sold the game starting at $30-40 and released one yearly then I would be ok with it, but $60 no thanks

Yeah , modern warfare 3 was nt too bad but its definetely the worst cod for me . The maps were mostly unimpressive , just like the weapons .

Also did nt feel like we had enough chances to react to incoming bullets .It was more about who shoot first then who is better .

Step-Aside Sledgehammer, let the rightful Call of Duty developers back on it Treyarch!!!!

They are the ones that truly change the game up!!!

Well besides multiplayer, that's different guns and maps, with other bells and wistels.

I agree and like Treyarch and Zombies however their games graphics are not up to snuff with the MW series. They need to improve graphic wise other than that they are also my favorite CoD dev.

Exactly, I expect a little graphical improvement but overall black ops changed the cooking game (lol epicmeatime) up for call of duty. IT has best story best co-op.

I expect from them a whole lot more then Inifnity wards MW3 was MW2 with a large expansion pack.

If they are working on a new COD, then it wont be released in the next 2 years.

I don't think we will see a next-gen console for at least 3 years.

It would take Sledge that long to create a new engine for next gen consoles.

I haven't heard anything about BF4 but there was an easter egg in BF3 for BF2143! I am hoping for BF2143 this gen. BF2142 was a lot of fun. I am predicting BF4 on next gen.

If they bring COD to the PS4, we could see alot of hate between the consumers and devs unless they improve graphics, expand bigger multiplayer maps (don't have to be big as the Battlefield maps), make the story longer than the treyarch games, that's about it for now.

I honestly think DICE's next game will be Bad Company 3. I think that will be their last current gen game. Loved BFBC2 so yeah...

This last installment was an incredible let down. If felt like a mash up (meaning you could really tell that multiple companies had their hand in this). From the titles/emblems (re-hashed totally un-original), crappy PS3 voice chat, host lagging, and a bevvy of other issues. Personally, I'd like to see Treyarch take the lead...at least with BLOPS they really listen to players, take an active approach instead of passive when responding to complaints/issues.

Maybe Sledge are creating a next-gen engine for COD? And not necessarily a next-gen COD?

Everyone keeps clammering on about how COD needs a new engine, maybe one that can scale into the next-gen consoles?

I can't stand MW3, the maps are tiny and the spawns stink. I don't even know why they have sniper rifles in the game, they are useless.

dont blame iw sledge helped with multiplayer i blame everything for activision messing with the original iw team and hiring sledge to help
especialy on a franchise as large as that with no high quality previous game experience
they let seldge help? wow i was speechless but alas i prayed everyday
