Starhawk Public Beta Open Now, Game Launches On May 8

The private beta is over, the public beta just kicked off, and we have a finalized launch date.

Yes, Starhawk followers, it's good news the whole way 'round. If you checked the PlayStation Blog recently, you probably saw the announcement that Lightbox Interactive's highly anticipated title will arrive on May 8 in North America.

They also took the opportunity to remind everyone that the public beta test is in full swing. As they move forward, they'll invite more and more gamers into the fray, and we particularly like the part where SCEA senior producer Harvard Bonin tells everyone that a beta is "NOT a demo." Yeah, we've been saying that for a while. Concerning beta details, we learn that Lightbox will let us try the Classic Arcade Flight Mode, and players will also be able to collect unique Skills based on their performance.

For our thoughts on the beta, read our hands-on preview. Afterward, get ready to join the action yourself!

Ben I have a code from Uncharted 3 you can give away to somebody if you want. I won't need it because of Plus.

I got into the early beta and played it for a bit. Gotta say I'm loving this game. It's Warhawk on Roids.... Can't wait for this one to come out in May!

Starhawk was the worst game i have ever beta tested. Couldn't "run" and the fact that you couldn't join games in your own rank sucked. It looked really cool and the ability to create and use your own rides was neat. But, that's all it had going for it. There's not even any blood or dismemberment in it. The respawn looks cool, but gets annoying when you have to spawn at a particular area miles away from where the action is. I give it a 5 out of 10 just for being inclined in decent visuals.
