Mass Effect 3 Demo Makes Valentine's Day Even Sweeter

So what if you're alone this Valentine's Day? Gaming has you covered in more ways than one, so don't get all mopey.

Not only are several anticipated titles slated for February 14 (including Twisted Metal), but you'll also get to sample what is quite possibly the single biggest RPG of 2012.

BioWare has announced that a playable Mass Effect 3 demo will be available on February 14 on the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Marketplace, and PC. You'll play through the opening sequence, which means you'll have to fight off Reapers as they continue their invasion of earth. We'll even have the opportunity to test out the new co-op multiplayer mode, and for those of you playing on the Xbox 360, the demo is compatible with Microsoft Kinect.

Just remember that you'll need an online pass for that co-op mode, which you got if you picked up Battlefield 3 last year. Otherwise, you'll have to wait a few more days (until February 17), when co-op in the demo becomes available to all. Lastly, playing the demo will unlock the N7 Armor and Omniblade Daggers for the upcoming Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, which is slated to arrive on February 7. Mass Effect 3, if you've already forgotten, will be on store shelves on March 6.

I have very high expectations for this title. I am currently playing ME2, and it is blowing me away. By far one of my favorite titles ever.

Hopefully it's better than the mediocre 3rd person shooter, barely RPG that was Mass Effect 2.

I disagree with you big time! Sure, it's not the best TPS, one could even say that ME2 is not the best RPG out there either.

But what ME2 does is excel at story telling, character development, and that general feeling that the crew of the Normandy is involved in something big, really big.

Plus, it doesn't hurt that ME2 has some cool solar system to solar system starship action.

@Maxpontiac, quoting, "excel at story telling, character development, and that general feeling" - Bullseye. You got it. *That's* what ME is entirely about, and that's why we love it so.

This is why I get so frustrated when people write it off as just a "shooter", cause it's not about the guns, maps or the mechanics. It's all about the atmosphere, the characters, the stories.

I liked Mass Effect 2, I have to go back for a second playthrough actually. Tough decisions in that game, like who'll be my woman of interest, of course(Jack was my first choice). Seriously, though, I can't wait to see how the story unravels. The E3 demo looks a little more of the same, an action-y RPG(sorta). Which isn't necessarily a bad thing unless you preferred Mass Effect 1, which I did own for a short time(I lost interest). Multiplayer is cool, but I'm not interested in it. As long as the single player didn't have to suffer, I'm game.

Oh man, I'm so excited for this one. Got my collector's edition paid off and waiting. Replaying 1 and 2 currently in preparation for the final installment, which I'm sure will blow the other two out of the water!

......okay, fanboy rant over. I'm pleased to the the interplay between Kingdoms and ME3. Hopefully developers and publishers will continue give gamers more incentives like these. It certainly seems like a good means of increasing awareness of other titles and new IPs.

Im really looking foward to this title, I just hope it has more side missions to do, ME2 was great, it just got so loonely toward the end when I had nothing left to do. They could really do with something like Skyrims Radiant Quest and give this game a feeling of the galaxy being alive and not just full of empty worlds.

I hope so too. One thing is for sure, when I start playing ME3 I will want it to never end.

I'm really looking forward to ME3 especially to see how the story unfolds but I want to play through ME2 again to make different choices than my first playthrough.

Pretty much every dev makes merchandise for their games anymore. Its really not a big deal to be perfectly honest with you.
