Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2 Dated

JRPG fanatics have even more reason to be excited this year.

NIS America has announced that Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2 will be available exclusively on the PlayStation 3 in North America on February 28. Our European friends will get it four days earlier on the 24th.

Players will return to the world of Gameindustri, where the Criminal of the Free World, Arfoire, has already defeated and imprisoned the four CPUs, so the younger sisters must free them from captivity. In addition to returning characters, the publisher says to expect an "all-new free-roam battle system" that will offer more strategic combat, a streamlined combo mechanic, a new item synthesis system, and a Coliseum where you can test your mettle against various powerful opponents.

We thought the first one was decent, although it had a few obvious drawbacks. Hopefully, the developers will make some changes for the better, and this sequel will be superior in all respects. Well, we'll only have to wait another five weeks to find out...

CLEARLY a press release was just recently sent out, and not in September. There are like 20 other websites declaring the confirmed release date within the last 12 hours.

According to articles on IGN released in September, the original release says either "Sometime in 2012" or "Q2 2012". Never before today has it been said an exact date.

In September, Gameatsu said "Sometime in Spring of 2012".

And finally, at the TGS in September, NIS themselves merely said "Spring 2012".

This is the first time actual dates have popped up.... And it isn't Spring time yet.

I dug everywhere. This is all I could find. The only websites declaring the release date did so with in the last 12 hours.

And when you play this game make sure not to play with the dual shock controller close to your lap otherwise you might get a boner (males only of course). JRPSP is a new genre I've invented: Japanese Role Playing Softcore Porn.

Imagine switching out those characters in the picture above for pictures of other beloved female characters from JRPGs and you'll gasp!

Yes Idea Factory does have it's share of less than fortunate habits such as bizarre and questionable marketing tactics (they did the same thing with Record of Agarest War if memory serves).

But I am going to withhold any kind of judgement until I've spent a decent amount of time with the actual game.

I would also encourage others to do the same (the rhyme is incidental by the way).

Edit: Also, I'm not knocking the other contents of the game, just the way they seem to be forcefeeding these additional sexual references (which isn't really softcore porn, but it's starting to get really darn close).

Ah, but who's to say that this imagery actually is "contents of the game"? All I see is some bizarre and questionable marketing.

As I said I'll withhold any kind of judgement until I've spent a decent amount of time with the ACTUAL GAME.

I know I know I'll wait until the actual game too, but you have to keep in mind, like you've said with Idea Factory and Record of Agarest War, they have a track record. In Record of Agarest War 2 (not yet out in NA) there is a massage mini game where you use the PSMove to massage scantily clad females. Reminds me of when I was playing the FFX-2 massage minigame and my girlfriend asked me "WTF are you playing?! Is it a Japanese hentai game?!"

And yes, I suppose I could attest this to marketing, as I do have yet to play the game, but WOW, what a way to market it.

But on the other hand they are far from alone in this area. Let's not forget that the God of War series has something of a tradition of sex mini-games with God of War 3 being particularly noteworthy in this regard.

But as I indicated I have no intention of passing any kind of judgement until I've spent a decent amount of time with the actual game. And I'm glad that we seem to be in agreement on this point.

Yup. I suppose in Western games there is lots of sex too, like Mass Effect and God of War. It's just those girls look so innocent and young. It also looks so...nonconsensual. At least with God of War you knew they were whores, and it really did fit the environment. I don't like sexual content just for the sake of sexual content. It really takes me away from an experience.

And you're right, I shouldn't pass judgment yet, but I hope it doesn't happen with this game. I'm glad we've reached an agreement, and I do really hope that there isn't much sexual content thrown in my face for no apparent reason.

Edit: By the way I'm not giving those thumbs down. I don't really do that unless someone really pisses me off ;)

Maybe something's wrong with me, but that picture definitely doesn't do anything for me. I didn't even consider it to be sexual until you said something. After consideration, I still don't think it's very sexual.

To be clear the style of character design that's apparently used here is the moe style and there's nothing wrong with it in itself.

And of course even in the picture there's no actual sexual content and as Highlander indicated calling it softcore porn would be a quite a stretch to say the least.

Anyway, in the context of the story the three characters depicted are being held prisoner, although probably not in this particular manner in the actual game.

To each his own. I've now shown this picture to quite a few actual Asian people (living in Korea and all) and they think it's quite a sexual picture. Just take a look at the expressions on their faces. It's not that hard to see.

I'm sure when Catwoman is captured she's not making weird faces like that. "OMG these ropes are so tight but it kinda feels good against my breasts. Oh wait I'm gonna put one in my mouth. I can't stop myself."

I could have copy and pasted it, but that would just look like spam. I write my blog mostly for people that I know, so I thought I would share. It's not big by any means, so how about we condense that credibility back into a liquid state.

I'm sorry to say that I'm a bit disappointed.

It seems to me that you're starting to obsess over something that's not really worth obsessing over. And the reason I say that is because I myself have seen much MUCH worse stuff than the picture in question. True it might be a little on the suggestive side but to call it softcore porn would be quite a stretch to say the least.

I am not going to read your little piece because as I've indicated what really matters is the actual game.

And you do remember what you said about not passing judgement right? Because it seems to me that you may be coming a bit close to crossing that line.

Entirely subjective. It would appear like a better article had you given merit to the aspects where merit was due. However, giving a lack of merit where it's due begets the same result for yourself, unfortunately. That type of writing will convince only people who BOTH respect your opinion as a person -AND- know nothing about the topic at hand.

I like your enthusiasm, Zen, truly. However, it would be easier to swallow with fair arguments for both sides. As is, it's just an opinion piece with bias. In the future, if you can provide a fair objective look, you can retain your opinion, but you have to support it in the face of a FULL analysis. Otherwise, the second someone comes along with a legitimate point you decided to overlook, your peice is easily discredited.

However, if you INCLUDE all legitimate points, and STILL retain your opinion while supporting it in the face of other arguments, your opinion can stand on it's own with respect, even if people still don't agree.

At least, that's what I've learned about writing.

@Underdog - Even though we seem to have differing view points thanks for the advice on writing. I've only been doing it for a short time and it's just for practice so any advice is great. I enjoy writing satire, but you're right in that I should include an objective analysis from both sides to really get a point across and solidify the argument. I tried to do that in the last paragraph but it seems it wasn't as clear as I had hoped.

@Looking Glass - But remember, I'm not passing judgment on the entirety of the game, as I'm still just talking about the sexual nature of the picture. Don't worry about my article causing trouble as not enough people read it anyways. People also know that the article merely for laughs, and not to be taken seriously.

@All - By the way I still haven't been the one thumbs downing you. Just thought I would put that out there that just because we have differing opinions I don't try to cut people down.

I did warn you. I mean, I like obtuse turn based JRPGs, but even I had a hard time with HyperDimension Neptunia's needless annoying healing system and sluggish interface. When people talk about JRPGs needing to get with the times and improve, both in the execution and writing, that is one game that comes to mind for a number of reasons, as does Cross Edge. But this sequel is supposedly improved in many, any ways.
