Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC: Get Lightning Back In Your Party

It seems weird to have a sequel where none of the characters from the previous title are available for use in battle.

It's even stranger when the protagonist disappears. While Lightning will be part of the story in Final Fantasy XIII-2, she will not be playable...at least, not at first.

According to Andriasang citing Famitsu magazine, Square Enix has confirmed that the leading lady from FFXIII will appear as a coliseum character in a fresh batch of downloadable content. If you can best her, you'll be able to use her in your party...maybe they're treating her like an enemy, in that you can summon the monsters you defeat to assist you in combat. Furthermore - and this is great news - it seems we'll get "secret story episodes" for Lightning as well, which will arrive at a later date.

Oh, and don't forget that a bunch of classic Final Fantasy bosses are scheduled to appear in the coliseum. So does that mean we can use any of the characters we beat? So um...could we have Sephiroth in our party? Kefka? We're just trying to be optimistic, here...

It's ironic you say that since this game is focused on time travelling.

I wish they somehow mix another realm... like another Final Fantasy... :x

Yeah I'm not feeling the DLC but I know sooner or later I'll be playing this. I spent like 90 hours on the first one so I can't say I didn't get my monies worth out of it. Just feels weird to hear the words Final Fantasy and dlc in same sentence. Guess I need to embrace change since it's either that or don't play games. Man, I miss the old days.

fingers crossed for a team battle vs Sephiroth and cloud, (RAV and COM types) they could both be COM but Sephiroth seems like he'd stagger them rapidly and Cloud could just do heavy damage.
but i doubt classics will come in :(
if my hopes are low, my enjoyment is high.

Last time I battled Sephiroth in a colliseum, he literally rapped me. Over and over and over.

Damn that colliseum from Kingdom Hearts.

hehe. That happened to me too but I leveled my up and returned to defeat Sepiroth but it was no easy task. First seeing Sepiroth walking through the flames was an epic moment in KH. He is a bad a$$ for sure.

Following the Western trends, Japanese developers are talking about DLC before the game releases...

EDIT-crap forgot this game is out in Japan already. me fails.

Feels like they are holding my angst-ridden girlfriend hostage, I don't like that. I'd rather get Lightning in my free preorder DLC than Omega Weapon.

Edit: We probably shouldn't explode though, no one pooped their pants when Mortal Kombat did it and since most plan to get it the game after a price drop they can wait for the Complete Edition.

It's so clear to me that SE is trying to recover lost revenue. This DLC thing with FFXIII-2 is annoying me. Obviously anyone whom decides not to purchase DLC will NOT be experiencing the game in its entirety.

Oh, well. I'll be getting the complete version when it releases. Thats what I did with Dragon Age: Origins. All formally DLC was included in one ultimate package!

I am just glad I will be able to play as Lightning again! She was my favorite in XIII along with Fang. This game is looking better and better.

While I could not care less than I already do about Lightning, having classic bosses like the Four Fiends or Ultros as optional bosses (and possibly party members) is a great idea and an appropriate use of DLC. It's just a shame S-E decided to put that great idea in such a disappointing game.

all these final fantasy XIII-2 new just makes my decision to buy this game until its under $10 better and better. and the way fans are pissed at what square enix has done to this game and how the japanese responded to this game, that means no greatest hits label. no red box when i buy this game.

I think this game will be a fun... sort of thing that I can enjoy as a JRPG style game but after that I'm going to put together a Final Fantasy SuperPac to campaign for a return to greatness with FFXV.

Well it's a nice feature, I would have been happy if this was not DLC and something I could earn in the game >:( - I wonder if you can put adornments on her :P

Wait... so I have to pay for her... but that's not good enough, I also have to beat her as well?

And what is this... like... I capture her as a monster or something?

Sometimes DLC crap is just super lame. I'm becoming more and more disinterested all the time.

Can you imagine if we had to PAY for all those side quests in FFVII? Had to pay for Doomtrain or Eden in FFVIII? Had to pay for additional skills or golden chocobo in FFIX? Had to pay for access to ultimate weapons in FFX?

Because that's what this feels like, here.

I agree....DLC has its good points but when it comes to RPGs...no matter the company they are just looking for a little something extra on the side. ='( kinda sad

I agree with you in regards to Lightning. My personal apathy aside, most fans of XIII would be excited to play as her again and S-E should have rewarded those fans with a free side quest.

I still believe, however, that the inclusion of older bosses is an appropriate use of DLC. Assuming that most fans of XIII are younger gamers, they're not going to care if Rubicant or Siegfried or Reno show up. Those characters will only appeal to the longtime fans that S-E has been desperately trying to kick to the curb this gen. Hopefully this means that they might still see us as part of their fan base and maybe, just maybe, might start making more things that appeal to us.

I got my "old boss" fix with Dyssidia, myself. I definitely feel like this will go on the cheap quickly. I'll be getting it, but much later.

Same here. Its not a bad thing for me I guess. I have a pretty big backlog of PS3 games to get to so at least I have something to do while I wait.

We'll see what people say in 5 days when it releases here in the U.S.

indeed. So far I'm seeing 8/10's from 3 major sources (only metacritic'd counts so far). One says the gameplay is improved but the story is so bad it's insulting, while another says the story and characters are great, but the gameplay is just "filler". lol

Already contradictory. lol Both agree on a score though.

I see 8/10 as what everyone else already sees. A decent game that fails to live up to the franchise (which averages a 9.0-9.2 typically)

Is the Colosseum dlc ??? If not , it would be awesome to be able to have past bosses in you re party . I would definitely buy it sooner then i anticipated ( maybe at first price ) .

If not then i ll wait like i first wanted so i don t feel rip off buying some dlc bosses .
