Jaffe Wants God Of War IV To Adopt A "Zelda Formula?"
Well, this ought to incite plenty of discussion. Thing is, there are multiple ways to interpret the quote in question...
Recently, we heard a rumor that both God of War IV and Syphon Filter 4 will be officially announced next month. Last year, various sources reported snippets of information concerning GoWIV, and this included the information that multiplayer was imminent. But what does the original creator of the franchise think about the fourth installment?
David Jaffe and his new studio, Eat Sleep Play, are finishing up work on Twisted Metal and as Jaffe is no longer part of Sony Santa Monica, he won't have any say in how God of War IV turns out (at least, we don't think he will). At any rate, when asked what he'd like to see in the next entry, Jaffe replied on Twitter:
"@PSNztstyle Zelda formula, multiple mythologies, more nuance to Kratos."
There are plenty of ways to make a game better, even if it's as amazing as God of War III. Improvements, upgrades, and enhancements can be made and if Jaffe had his way, he'd want a more Zelda-like formula and perhaps a heavier emphasis on the character of Kratos. But what does that Zelda comment really mean...?

they way zelda is, you know where you need to go but need to slow the game's pace by going out to collect things to make you versatile/powerful. and from playing previous zelda games, the game pace is slow to moderate which works with zelda games.
i guess whether it works or not depends on the games overall theme. god of war was always a fast paced game, granted not devil may cry fast. the story is pretty straight forward too. these guys screwed me over so i'm hunting zeus down and taking out whoever gets in my way. i wouldnt want a scenario that goes, "wait, let me go in a completely opposite direction to get this weapon, i'll be back later" kind of thing. at least in a god of war game.
my suggestion to him is just make a game with the zelda formula. rebooting/changing established franchises just seems like a bastardization of what they built it to be.

I like his comment about different mythologies -- perhaps Kratos travels between Greek, Norse and Egyptian worlds of myths, fights/interacts with all of those gods and mythical beings? THAT would be friggin' sweet, especially if it's an almost Zelda-level of exploration.

As far as more nuance to Kratos, his story is done. There should be no more Kratos as the main character as far as I'm concerned. Get a new guy, and as long as he's got a strong reason to fight and looks cool, I'll go with it.
And as far as the Zelda thing is concerned, I guess he's trying to say he wants more depth, which isn't a bad thing. But to be honest, Zelda's gameplay wouldn't fit very well with GoW's pace, so I don't think I'd agree with him on that point either.
