Aliens: Colonial Marines Pushed Back

Well, there are plenty of other games to play in the meantime.

Sega has revealed that Aliens: Colonial Marines has been delayed. It was originally slated to arrive this spring, but now it won't arrive until the fall.

The statement said the project needs to follow the inspiration and creativity of the developers, rather than a timetable blueprint.

"Aliens: Colonial Marines is a process of creativity and invention and those don't necessarily follow the structure of an assembly line. While setting clear goals, deadlines and predictions is helpful, they are often subjective. We don't want to sacrifice the creative process just for the sake of following a blueprint. We prefer to have the creative discovery shape that blueprint because our goal is to make a great game, and we are prioritizing this goal over the previously targeted date."

If you're wondering, the game picks up after the events of the classic 1986 sci-fi thriller. Players will join up with a bunch of space soldiers aboard the USS Sulaco (yeah, the ship in the movie) after it was abandoned, and then proceed to planet LV-426 and its primary settlement, Hadley's Hope. This is a first-person shooter that should be faithful to the film(s) in question and we say if Sega needs more time, fine.

Mediocre titles are always disappointing. Just get it right.

I'm a big fan of Aliens. The first two movies were great. I always thought inserting the Colinal Marines into Aliens was a brilliant move on Cameron's part. The drop ships, motion trackers and heavy weaponary was all cool stuff that would fit well into a game well if it was properly executed.

This game has been in development for a long time. The track record for delayed games isn't so great but I am going to try to be mildly optimistic about this game.

Aliens is great 80's action but pissed on a lot of what made Alien such a classic.

I liked both movies a lot in different ways. If Cameron had simply copied Ridley's movie I don't think it would have turned out so great. I did not mind the action in Aliens because we still got some great horror pieces in the movie as well. I loved that scene where Ripley and Newt were trapped in the room with a couple of face huggers. Inserting a kid into that kind of movie was risky because they can sometimes come off as corny but I thought it worked well.

Both movies were well cast. Again, I think Cameron made a great sequel. It was bigger and in some ways even more intense than the original. I loved the ending as well, Ripley in that power lift vs the Alien queen was epic. "Get away from her you biatch" My hairs still tingle everytime I watch that scene.

I actually prefer Alien3 to Aliens. Aliens just comes off pretty hokey to me. Also JC turned the alien into bugs with a IMO laughable looking queen vs the badass method of cocooning shown in the original.

Plus the marines did just about everything wrong. I love Sigourney Weaver in it though, she deserved her Oscar nomination.

I hate when they put a kid in the movie, but the Marines and the Loader vs Queen fight scene saved it.

The marines were terrible. They were an exaggeration of actual soldiers and they were pretty bad at their jobs for supposedly having been on countless missions against other aliens.

The Power Loader scene is cool but the way it ends (same death for the alien as in the original) with the Queen holding onto Ripley's foot is laugh out loud stupid.

What makes the Alien series so wonderful is that every film entry is unique. I love them all. What would have been terrible if from Aliens onwards they were all just more marines, more action.

It just shows the strength of the series and every film being unique even further with Prometheus incoming.

Aliens isn't even classified as a Sci-Fi Horror nor should it be.

It's a Sci-Fi Thriller.

Haha, I agree I don't see this getting very high scores. Don't feel bad for it, Fox has made more than they deserve off of it.

Video games usually top old entries (at least until they go way off the rails), it's just sucky that movies get worse each time. Though I thought Alien Resurrection was better than Alien 3 on the lame prison ship. Ron Perlman rules.

Alien3 was on a planet, not a ship. Also I suggest you watch the Assembly Cut of Alien3. It adds an additional 30+ minutes to the movie and lots of scenes that flesh out the characters. Fox royally screwed over Fincher which is why to this day he disowns the movie (the first he ever directed).

AR is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad, I mean come on!!!

Sorry, I only watched it once cuz it was so bad and incredibly boring. No weapons? C'mon man. AR was entertaining, not cinema gold. Surely you knew by then the series was tapped out. (Though even I cringe at the scene where she falls into the alien slithering-ness and that guy makes his lame speech).

That Hybrid thing was damn cool.

No weapons?! Evidently you forgot one of the reasons Alien was such a great movie. The only weapons in Alien were a cattle prod and a flamethrower.

I think the problem is you were expecting and wanting AliensII instead of Alien3. Alien3 brought the series back to its origins.

Alien deserved more than AR, AVP, and AVPR. Although I've always been against any sequels and prequels to Alien I'm holding out hope for something at least watchable with Prometheus since Ridley is directing it.

It's shocking how bad the AVP movies are. I'm on board for the new one. Hoping it returns to the horror of the first.

seriously, this is starting to become a joke!

Not overly surprised by this. I heard quite a bit about Colonial Marines but then things just seemed to go quite. Anyway, delaying the release of this game may just be the best thing going for it.

Don't think I will have much time for it anyway as I will be quite busy with `Skyrim` and `Dust514` for a bit I suspect.

Q!

Loved the first two movies, and the Director's Cut of the third was very good too. Don't know about the game though. The movies were all about the great characters. Not just the shooting. If this is going to be nothing but big testosterone-dripping dudes blasting everything in sight, well, I'm terminally bored with those sorts of games.

It's actually the Assembly Cut. Fincher had nothing to do with the cuts made to that version of the movie since he disowned and left the film before post production. Yes I'm going overboard with pointing that out, I do like your picture.

Hopefully this gives them time to work on the graphics. That long demo video on the PSN looks pretty bad graphically. I know Gearbox isn't known for their graphics (or quality in general), but for a game that's been worked on for so long, it had better be higher quality when it releases.

Oh, and the AI looked really glitchy and dumb in the demo too. Hopefully they can work on that as well.

I'm not hopeful they'll actually fix those issues though.
