Don't Miss The Return Of An Iconic Franchise In February
Yeah, I know what you're thinking. Twisted Metal, right? Nah, we all know about that one; it's getting plenty of coverage everywhere.
But there's something else, and I don't think the veteran PlayStation fans are giving it anywhere near enough attention. I say that knowing I'm not even a big racing or sports fan, by the way.
SSX should make its triumphant return on February 28. Now, I remember the early days of the PS2; I remember thinking, "I really don't care about snowboarding at all; I just want Summoner." I was huge into RPGs in those days, after all. But then the funniest thing started to happen: SSX started to pull down perfect scores from multiple sources and every other customer (I was working in EB at the time) seemed to be raving about its greatness. "Even if you don't like snowboarding" they would say, a wild, satisfied gleam in their eye.
It was arguably the most important title for the PS2 when it launched, because it was really the only game that separated it from the competition, which, at the time, was the Dreamcast. It gave us a hint, a little preview, of what the machine was capable of; in truth, we wouldn't know the full capacity of that system until many years later when God of War and Final Fantasy XII made us go, "...woah. Compare these to the PS2 launch titles." SSX looked amazing and was endless fun, and future iterations were also extremely well received.
I know we've sort of moved beyond the eras were sports games could dominate, but PlayStation fans should definitely recall the good ol' days of SSX. And as a direct result, one would assume they're champing at the bit for the very promising reboot. Sure, it's changed a bit but these days, what hasn't? I have complete faith in the developers; they know how to approach this, I'm sure. And when February 28 rolls around, you gotta give it a try.

SSX was very cool. I didn't play too much but what I played I dug, but I'm glad franchises such as this and Twisted, that are all about the gameplay are making returns in a story driven industry.
I love story driven and cinematic games, but it's always good to balance it out with some super replayable and deep gameplay.

As for SSX, sadly it will have to wait until I've finished Mass Effect 3, MGS HD Collection (releasing in Feb here in Australia) and Twisted Metal. But I will make sure it gets a good place among my video game collection.
SSX Tricky was my favourite game from the PS2 era next to MGS3 and God of War 2. Pure shiny fun on a disc!!! I just hope SSX on PS3 can capture that same level of addictive fun!!

Twisted metal definitely wins over it.
I'm more excited over the next month, TOG-F.
SSX should get the fans it needs however, snowboarding games are kind of dead, and SSX is much more interesting and crazy then shuan white, and has a fairly large fanbase from ps2, I'm looking forward to discussions and reviews on it.

I did like SSX as a launch game but I admit my gaming tastes have changed a lot since then.
