Ubisoft: If We Focus On High Quality, We Can Be #1

Many fans wanted Ubisoft to take a year off to create the next Assassin's Creed, but "annualization" works when the games keep selling.

Besides, despite what some critics perceived as a slight slip in quality in last year's Revelations, it was still a great game. And according to what Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot told MCV, the newest entry won't be rushed...in fact, it'll be the biggest AC ever.

Guillemot first says "there are a lot of expectations" so the series will continue forward, and Revelations was a top ten title for "the entire calendar year." As for the aforementioned annualization:

"We think that delivering regular instalments and expanding the brand to other platforms will continue to satisfy the demand, while at the same time attracting new fans. And we’re confident that the next instalment of Assassin’s Creed will be the biggest to date."

Finally, Guillemot said they're definitely challenging the big boys (Activision and EA) and if Ubisoft can keep their focus on high-quality games and "attracting and retaining top talent," they'll be a major player in the publishing world for many years to come. They also think they've got a chance at becoming #1...

Well, gonna need your very own Call of Duty for that to happen. AC is multi-million, but it isn't multi-multi-crazy-multi-million.

No that's for the next gen. This year it will be AC: Modern Stealth-fare
It'll have extra helpings of online play and game passes and overpriced DLC.

But dont worry, they'll add a new game play aspect, like the inclusion of inner city horse travel.... Er, wait

Off topic: Lair was one of my 1st PS3 games, I must say It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO frustrating I never got past the 5th mission if I recall correctly.

There the only company I know of that could make such high quality games in one year, but yes they did seem to be slipping a little bit

But its really REALLY nice to see a company focus on quality!

Cool! Yeah it's a great IP for sure.

It's the atmosphere I love in these games. The architecture and the people. I've always wondered how much of the "facts" in the game are real, regarding historical persons and locations etc. It's very cool nonetheless and gives a very historical, adult feeling to the game. Something for the grown ups to enjoy. Plus some of the texts are flat out hilarious.

Most definitely a top quality IP.

I love the fact the game has a living and breathing world. I sometimes just sit back and watch how the people interact with each other.

Ac revelations was the worst to date.
Online Pass was the final nail and made me sell it upon completion

I Hope the thumbs down aren't for the revelations was the worst to date because it really was.
Short. Unpolished. Crappy additions. Very little of desmond. Annoying turf war thing. Dialog between others wasn't as fun. One repetitive city. No horses.

As for the online pass it was extra faffing. I wasn't going to use it as it would reduce the value of the game. Same reason I haven't used any of my other online passes.

I started playing a bit of AC: Revelations, and so far so good. I haven't run into some major tweaks to the gameplay yet, however, it's still far too easy. Which has always been a problem with Assassins Creed games. They do a good job of making me feel like an assassin, though. Hopefully, AC3 will sport a new engine. We'll see, but I won't hold my breath.

Lately, I've been playing a lot of Skyrim and doing a UGC in Infamous 2. I'm aiming for a heavy narrative with a good mix of dialogue and action. Hopefully, this time, I can see it through.

Since they are the publisher of SCV and are therefore no doubt behind the new more masculine line up and inclusion of their favorite assassin in it. They can bite me. I'll not buy another of their games in a long time.

Yes, Highlander is in a bad mood, doesn't feel well, and isn't in a forgiving mood over the travesty that is SCV.

Haven't gotten round to playing Revelations yet, and I don't want to sound cynical but I don't see how they can do annual releases for AC and still keep the top-notch quality.

This is mostly speculation, but it seems to me that the quality has been slipping ever so slightly.

Revelations seems like an awesome installment, and I really enjoyed Brotherhood, but I still don't see the same quality that was present in AC2.....I dunno :/

Sure, quality is always a good thing, but you can't just say we'll focus on it. Anyone can say it. They need to prove that they can. As for annualisation sating the demand... sure it will, but only to a certain extent. Sooner or later it begins to get tired, especially if it really hits the spotlight and starts to saturate with all of their multimedia tie-ins.

I'm really only familiar with AC and their horrible DRM for pc, but if they can follow through on that statement and release another ip or two with AC's quality, then more power to them.

sorry frogs but your not even close!
i love AC as much as the next guy, if not more!
but besides that they really have not released anything amazing this gen, i mean R6 vegas was good not great, and ghost recon and far cry have been good but again nothing special.
need to release more then 1 amazing series per generation to be numero uno!
and they never will be, there too concerned annualizing AC to produce the quality and quantity required to be so!

I don't understand why so few seem to have enjoyed Far Cry 2 much. I thought it was really, really special. Very cool atmosphere in the game, fantastic openness of course (especially in how you solved the challenges), excellent visuals, cool story and loads of very exciting moments.

Yes I really think Far Cry 2 was a very special game. I am *so* looking forward to the third.

Loved the whole open world of FarCry 2.

For me, I went 4-wheeeling everywhere, including well off the beaten paths, so my most prized trophy in FC2 wound up for going through every square inch of the maps.

For UbiSoft to be on top, they need to focus on more than just one franchise. Give some of the attention back to Prince of Persia... give some more Rayman... make Splinter Cell respectable again... actually release Beyond Good & Evil 2!

i got ACR for christmas but still haven't gotten around to opening it i wanted to take a good long break from the series. i haven't played an AC game in about almost 15 months so i think it'll seem fresh again. looking forward to seeing how the story ends up. ( i didn't read any above comments in fear of spoilers xD)

There was sooo much wrong with AC Revelations. Never has it been so obvious with a game (except maybe COD) where spending only 1 year in development results in a sub-par game. You could see where, in every area, AC Revelations could have soared and even garnered a game of the year nod, but this devout AC fan was just sad the entire time she played, wishing that Ubisoft had taken more time to really deliver a top notch game. Just glad I rented it...this was literally the FIRST AC I did not opt to buy.
