Schilling On Kingdoms Of Amalur's Arrival: "Well, I'm Nervous"
Curt Schilling has been involved in quite a few Opening Days in baseball. He's been the starting pitcher on those days, too.
But this coming week, the ex BoSox pitcher leaves the famous bloody sock behind and etches his name in the bedrock of a whole different form of entertainment: video games.
Schilling co-founded 38 Studios and tackled quite the massive project; a new action/RPG called Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, which is scheduled to launch on Tuesday, February 7. Schilling and Co. tapped some serious talent for this one; novelist R.A. Salvatore and "Spawn" artist Todd McFarlane were on board, for example. Salvatore created a 10,000-year history that serves as the epic background to the folklore in Amalur, and overall, there were over 400 people at two separate studios involved in the creation of this ambitious project.
So how does Schilling feel, heading into release day? Well, as he told VentureBeat, the guy is on pins and needles.
"Well, I’m nervous. This is my first opening day in a new job. Five-plus years is a lot. The challenging part is that I’m kind of powerless, we’re kind of powerless now. The game is going to be in players’ hands on Tuesday, and everything we could possibly do to make it the best we could do, we’re done with. Now it’s just the anticipation."
It's a great interview and one well worth reading. Schilling also explains how the game evolved over time, and how it now boasts a combination of action-based gameplay and the deep, fantastical storyline of a Baldurs Gate. We caught a glimpse of that in the playable demo, and we ardently hope the title appeals to both role-playing aficionados and action fans who aren't afraid of a little depth. Okay, a lot of depth.
Good luck, Curt. Success is never guaranteed but at least you worked hard.

i mean some of the sh*t that he sprouts, like "we have the most advanced combat in a RPG."
OH PLEASE!
yea, just like skyrim won polished game of the century!
the demo put me off buying this, just felt too much like a cheap cheesy B grade movie.
but the sh*t he constantly keeps sprouting makes me want to never buy any of his games!
theres shameless self promotion, then theres spewing utter bull sh*t!
theres a big difference between stretching the truth to promote your game, and out right lying.

By that, I mean that this games is just a small(not in length)time-frame segment spun off from a 10,000 year period that's from an even larger MMO that they're still working on & isn't expected to release for a few more year.
Aww heck, it's not really coming out like I want to say it, but if you read the linked article, you'll understand what I'm talking about.
