Capcom Not Worried About Losing Fans With RE Spin-Off

It's always hard (and risky) when you attempt to change a traditional formula.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City producer Masachika Kawata told CVG that it was a big challenge leaving the survival/horror theme behind. At the same time, he's not worried about annoying the franchise's hardcore fans, as Operation Raccoon City is merely a spin-off and not an actual installment in the series.

Said Kawata:

"In terms of the fans of traditional Resident Evil, I was not worried because we have the numbered titles as well. Also, we thought it was important to broaden our market by creating spin offs."

He said he hopes the game will cater to "both existing and new Resident Evil fans," and that even the old-school followers would find "much to enjoy." To conclude, Kawata said-

"I believe we managed to create a unique and exciting game."

With SOCOM developer Slant Six at the helm, you can bet it won't play like any RE title before. But it's interesting to hear Capcom say it was a "challenge" to abandon the survival/horror concept, because it appears they don't have a problem with more action in RE6, either. The publisher also isn't concerned about losing fans, so...well, we'll see.

I've enjoyed RE since the beginning. I suppose its only natural that Capcom would want to reach a new demographic that doesn't appeal to its core audience for RE6. By taking the survival/horror element away, you inadvertently remove the feeling of isolation which was the cornerstone that made the series what it is.
Capcom isn't the only provider of this genre.
I guess I'm going to have to get my fix from someone else from now on.

*...for RE6. By taking the survival/horror element away...*

I don't get it. The way you say it, it is as if you think operation raccoon city is RE6.

RE6 will still have survival horror elements.

Apparently he hasn't noticed that the last two installments in the main series aren't exactly survival/horror either.

why would they?
they obviously were not concerned when they did the same to RE4,RE5,DMC4, and bionic commando so why would they be concerned now?

I just hope that RE6 will go back to the roots, i love re0 i still have the first ones on gamecube and play them now and again.
I do belive they are just pumping this franchise and not really caring anymore so we'll see what RE6 is like.
