Platinum Better Make Vanquish 2

Platinum Games is currently working on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and we assume a Bayonetta sequel will be heading our way, too.

But Vanquish was one game that got plenty of critical acclaim and sold relatively well, and yet, we say it didn't get anywhere near enough respect. The buzz seemed to die out all too soon.

That being said, we hope the strong sales will warrant an eventual sequel. The one thing that stood out about Vanquish was it's super fast-paced third-person shooting action that was actually unique; games of this type never move like that. It kept you on the edge of your seat from the word "go" and never let up. There was just so much to like about it. I was also impressed with the mechanics and general gameplay execution; one never felt overwhelmed, and despite the over-the-top speed, you never felt cheated. You never cursed out the game for causing deaths that weren't directly related to skill.

It wasn't realistic in the slightest and that was fine. We'd only ask for a better story and more defined characters. The entire focus of Vanquish was squarely on the gameplay and that isn't a bad thing, per se, but we'd like a more well-rounded production. The sequel absolutely should happen and we hope enough gamers out there appreciated what Platinum did with the first title. Those guys aren't into franchises but if enough people ask for it, we're willing to bet Platinum will deliver.

FYI,
My reply was to the spammer(that Ben deleted), and not towards the article itself.

Vanquish was one of the best games of last year, yet I'm sure almost no one has played it. =/
It was like a Japanese interpretation of Gears of War, and it was a blast to play (pun intended).
The ending was interesting as well! We want a sequel!

I loved Vanquish! I beg for a sequel. Vanquish is the only reason Metal Gear Revolutions Revisted ReReReVengenacer is on my radar.

I agree. It was like a sci fi version of Max Payne on crack. Now if they only had a main character as lovable as Max, and as engrossing of a story to boot, it would be a near perfect production.

Vanquish is one game I'm proud to have platinumed on my trophy list. Even though it sold well, it fell off the radar pretty quickly. I always convince people to play it and they always thank me afterwards.

Hold up... you, you....you PLATINUMed it?!??

Isn't this game considered one of the (if not *the*) hardest games to Platinum -- ever!?

Yup it is. It's not a time consuming platinum but Challenge 4 and 6 in the extra challenges are ridiculously hard. I loved the game so much though so it hardly felt like a chore. It actually gets you pretty darn good at it, so I was really happy to do it.

i wish they do make a vanquish 2. with them building a relationship with kojima productions, they can get help or tips on making a good story and character background/relationships. vanquish with a better story focus is a must buy in my book.

also, try to make earning a platinum trophy for this game a little easier. i'm one trophy away from platinum, the challenges trophy. most of those challenges are pretty damn difficult. not too easy though.

Truly a high speed adrenaline shooter! Completely loved it. I would be very happy to see a sequel. Only things I would change are more story and a longer campaign. This game will always be in my collection. It deserves to be played by all. Thanks Ben for doing a new article on this great game.

The ending certainly lent itself for the sequel. It blended 90's arcade style with next gen spectacle. Developed by Platinum, and had their trademark style written all over it, but was very fitting that Sega published it.

I really liked Vanquish and I expect a sequel. I also really liked Castlevania LoS, another game that doesn't seem to get much recognition these days.

Bing, Bing, bing. Really, it's games like these, that are exclusive to the consoles, that keep me from selling mine at times. After I got my gaming laptop, I've actually thought of just selling my console, and laptop, and upgrading to ridiculously over powered malibal/clevo/sager, because I find myself gaming less and less on my console.

But it's because of games like Vanquish, Uncharted,(and yes, even LoS), which are exclusive to consoles, that keep me from pulling the trigger.

I'd buy Vanquish 2. Of all the action games I have played this generation, Vanquish most reminded me of the arcade action game fun from the 80s/90s and of course the 3D action game fun I had with Doom. It's just highly refined and slick, but retains all the fun. I really hope they make a second one.

I want them to make a Vanquish sequel too, the game was awesome! one of my most favourite games of the generation!

But unfortunately, don't forget about the article from awhile back where Platinum went on to say that they are a developer who isn't interested in making sequels only new IPs.... :(

But then again, Kojima did say they would make Rising a series if it was successful enough, and im sure they would ask Platinum to do the rest of them too.

Vanquish is sitting on my shelf in my huge backlog of games still to be played, but I surly want a V2 just from sampling the 1st one.

I want that sequel. Do it Platinum. I love Vanquish. I played through it 3 times. Just go a little bit easier on those challenges if you do next time. I can't platinum the game Platinum. (see what I did there, I'm horrible)

Couldn't agree more. Vanquish was really great!!! Platinum do not get enough credit for they games they make. I see them as a great developer who makes extremely fun experiences. Bayonetta was awesome and vanquish was as well. Seems like people just dismiss them because they aren't Halo or COD. A shame really...
