Sanctum 2 Coming To Consoles In 2012

If the concept of a tower defense game mixed with a FPS sounds appealing, you may have played Sanctum on PC.

The good news is that after the title sold 300,000 units on Steam, Coffee Stain Studios decided to make a sequel...and that sequel won't be PC-exclusive. According to Joystiq, Sanctum 2 is coming to both the PC and "digital console platforms," which means the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, as mentioned by the source.

Said Ted Lange, Reverb Publishing executive producer:

"Sanctum has been a huge success on Steam for Coffee Stain Studios, and bringing the next version to console players as well as the PC market is a great next step to share this unique experience. We all have logged quite a few hours with Sanctum and can definitively say that what Coffee Stain has in store for Sanctum 2 will blow the minds of Sanctum fans and new gamers alike."

There is no concrete release date, but at least we know Sanctum 2 should launch some time this year. Reverb CEO Doug Kennedy only said the developers are "diligently working to get the title ready," so you'll have to be satisfied with that. Hey, we can always use more variety, right?

Translation;

We sold well enough on PC the first time around to make us think that there is a market. But, we believe that the best way to actually make a profit from the game is to sell it, therefore we are going to the console market.

Too bad the game wasn't exactly great to begin with. Interesting concept but poorly implemented.

I'm not a PC gamer so I've never heard of this game, but let's hope they'll also bundle the 1st game in too, so that way we'll know what's what within the 2nd game.

pass.
sorry but im all shootered out after the darkness 2 and golden abyss!
i wish we could go back to the way things use to be, a balanced genre.
now its 5000 shooters per month, and maybe 1 or 2 games that are not shooters if your lucky!
i love them, they use to be my favourite genre!
key word being USE to be!
tis what happens when you have nothing but ice cream for breakfast lunch and tea for the next 5 years!
everyone loves it, but your going to grow sick of it after a while.......

This is on the Steam daily sale right now for $3.99, if any of you are curious :). Offer ends in nine hours or so. I've got it, but got it in a five-game pack, and haven't gotten around to playing it yet.

Actually it's $3.39 just for the game. $7.47 if you want the game plus all 7 DLC's + the soundtrack. It's worth a few playthroughs if you have friends to play it with, but solo it just isn't that fun in my opinion. As far as tower defense games go, Defense Grid is still my favorite.

Depends where you are, I'm in Australia, Steam prices are different here - but the specials tend to roll worldwide (I've got friends on Steam in the US/UK), and figured the price would be close enough to indicative.

As for Tower Defence games, Defence Grid is very good, but didn't do quiet enough different to really stand out - my fave so far in recent years has been Comet Crash on the PSN.
