Minecraft Creator To Schafer: "Let's Make Psychonauts 2 Happen"

Last week, we learned that Tim Schafer really tried to sell Psychonauts 2. But he could never find a backer and as he told Digital Spy, he needs someone to pony up a million bucks to make the project happen. Yeah, a million.

And suddenly, Schafer might have his financial angel. It's Markus "Notch" Persson, creator of Minecraft and most certainly a millionaire; he tossed up a Tweet that got everyone talking:

"Let's make Psychonauts 2 happen."

He added, "Also, I'm serious." Not long after, various sources (including Giant Bomb) reported that Schafer's team, Double Fine, is actually talking to Notch about the possibility of making a Psychonauts sequel. Schafer and Persson might get together and talk at the upcoming Game Developer's Conference...wow.

But there's a caveat, as there always is- "Anyway, please don't get your hopes too high yet. Everything is extremely vague!" Hard to not be excited when we hear this; we've been begging for a Psychonauts 2 for years, and we're hardly the only ones.

This is a great story and I hope it happens. It's a shame when great games never find a sequel.

It's even more encouraging to see Minecraft sales get a bump up today from this news.

Notch just seems to be the coolest guy ever. Like that legendary reply he wrote on Twitter to the guy who said he couldn't afford Minecraft yet. "Just pirate it. If you still like it when you can afford it in the future, buy it then. Also don’t forget to feel bad. ;)".

This just made my day!!!!

Only thing better than this would be if Crytek or DICE announced they were taking over and finally releasing Star Wars Battlefront 3!!!

What they need to do now is announce an HD remastering of the original Psychonauts for PSN and XBLA (that way they could generate revenue for a sequel, while also boosting hype).

Despite cult status, I don't think too many people played Psychonauts last generation (which is a given judging by sales). Introduce it to a new audience and then give us the sequel we've been waiting 7 years to play!!

I've never played Psychonauts, so if a new one does come out, I'd like to see them do with it what EA and Spicy Horse did with Alice: Madness Returns and add the first game free of charge with a new purchase. Notch & Schafer, get on it!
