Square Enix Won't Let Sleeping Dogs Lie, True Crime Is Back
Remember True Crime: Hong Kong? It was canceled a while back, much to the chagrin of franchise fans.
But Square Enix has decided they shouldn't just let sleeping dogs lie. The publisher acquired the license to the game after Activision canceled development a couple years back and now, Square Enix has re-revealed the title as Sleeping Dogs. ...get it?
United Front Games is the studio at the helm and Sleeping Dogs is scheduled to release for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC during the second half of the year. The reason for the name change is that Square Enix grabbed the license rights to this one particular project, and not the entire franchise, but the setting hasn't changed: we're still in Hong Kong. The rejuvenated adventure is described as "an open world cop drama," where players assume the role of an undercover police officer.
Square Enix also said there's a heavy focus on giving players "a series of combat options." This involves gunplay that ranges all over the brightly lit city and "intuitive and imaginative" melee combat, which perhaps unsurprisingly includes some martial arts.
Well, who's excited to see True Crime back on the scene?

I've never played a True Crime before, but depending on how it looks I may be a fan. What is it that differentiates this game from other sandbox games like it? I know you play as a cop, so I suppose doing morally corrupt things is out of the picture, or are there options for that as well?

awesome looking game, awesome looking concept, but im seriously sceptical if it can pull it off.
i just hope it turns out like LA Noire, and not like neverdead.
open world games are REALLY hard to pull off!
and judging by the previous games on ps2 which were decent, but repetitive and seriously buggy, im leaning more towards neverdead then LA Noire.

When it comes to SHOOTERS, they should never ever make another shooting game after that BS of a game Kane and Lynch 2. IMO
