Killzone Misses PSN, Guerrilla Says It's "Delayed Indefinitely"

The original Killzone was supposed to hit the PlayStation Store on January 24.

However, it didn't happen and nobody really knew why. Now, developer Guerrilla Games has Tweeted an update on the matter, and...well, it isn't exactly encouraging.

"I have no further info about KZ1 for PS3, save for the fact that it's delayed indefinitely. If I learn anything else, I'll tweet it here."

Sony is trying to bring more PS2 classics to the PS3 as part of their "Only on PSN" initiative and Killzone was one of the first announced titles. But we're not sure what will happen now, so we'll just have to be satisfied with the other classics that scheduled to arrive (and have already arrived) on the Store. You can also check out those cool Collections, which boast high-definition overhauls for some of the more memorable games of the last generation.

Meanwhile, let's just wait for news on Killzone 4 and that new IP Guerrilla is working on.

Killzone was an awesome game but AI was stupid. I wonder if they tweaked it for the digital download game.

Yea, Gotta agree with LV. I bought Killzone for my PS2 after playing Killzone 2. Wow....No Wonder Halo was so popular back then. It did everything right were as Killzone was just blagh....

Killzone didn't become awesome until 2 and 3.

The original KZ was also being hyped to be a Halo killer, so I think it received a lot of ire for that. Well, and it just didn't seem to be all that great of a game of course.
It sort of reminds me of Kingdoms of AMular. It's been hyped to dethrone The Elder Scrolls. And well, for some reason, I feel this deep and nested desire to dislike the game even more because of the hype it has received. The demo made me think, wow, this is not even close =p Except for IGN... they think it's close...

The combat in Kingdoms of Amalur is very deep compared to Skyrims. Skyrim might have good graphics but I found myself enjoying KoA a bit more because of it's combat.

Cut him some slack, I enjoyed Killzone a lot as well.
Call it rubbish or whatever you want, he has a right to enjoy what he wants.

Killzone was average and then Killzone 2 was awesome but with the amount of budget and time spent on it, Killzone 2 should have been better.

Killzone 3 left a bad taste in my mouth, a taste so bad that I'd pick Killzone 2 over it any time.

I obviously don't know what I'm talking about with shooters, I guess. Someone recently actually got -mad- at me for saying W@W was a massive disappointment for me (despite admitting I didn't try it within the last year) and in the PS2 era, when I absolutely hated shooters (not so much now), KZ1 was the only shooter of the whole Gen I even finished.

@jawknee, It has nothing to do with graphics, never mentioned it, never was I thinking about it, ur the one that posted that u bought KZ1 after playing 2, obviously KZ1 "looks" (obviously u need "vision" look/see on wtf ur doing when u buy a game and play) like garbage compared to 2. Going back to ur previous reply's, u haven't thought of the slightest details I made on my posts. I guess u were looking for a fastball down the plate but instead u got a Knuckleball on the outside corner, hit and miss. KZ1 brings back many happy memories playing it's multiplayer. Single player wasn't bad at all, I found it better than 2 and 3 seeing as the sequels became a whole army vs. army whereas KZ1 relied more on being tactical depending on which path you took since you only could pick between 4 characters. It's too bad they went generic after that though, took away it's uniqueness :(

Maybe they decided to give it a full retail release? Full HD and sixty frames second would be sweet. Maybe they need to decide who will handle the port?

Didn't the original get scores between 4-5 out of 10? Why would they want to re-release it? And how is a game that bad a "classic" ?

Well there are quite a few people that have never played the original and I'm sure they will want to check it out after playing Killzone2/Killzone3.

Also past games tend to seem better in our minds as time goes by (for some games) and Sony is banking on this. Look at the first comment on this thread, it's someone voicing that it was an awesome game.

@LimitedVertigo, compared to now, I wouldn't think the game is awesome just average in today's standards.

If u haven't played it yet and ur interested in it, try it out matt, after all KZ2/KZ3 were great games to play.

Was this one of the classics, or an HD remake? I'm pretty sure it was/is a classic. in which case the delay is more than likely related to making the bespoke PS2 emulation work well enough for this game, or a copyright release issue with something that is included in the game - such as music. Since they pre-announced it confidently I can only assume that they found a bad bug in the emulated game that prevents release.

I sort of suspect a HD collections disc by Sony. Where it has a number of HD PS2 games that had standalone outings all on one disc, games like KZ, TM:B, WipEout:Fusion etc.

I completely agree with Xombito i hope thats what there're doing. But lets take it a step further and add that Killzone game from the PSP system i forget what it was called. and make it a Killzone collection for forty dollars. that will be a day one buy for me.

I'm not disappointed to hear this. I'd much rather see Killzone remastered in HD with trophy support, 30/60fps instead.

"PS2 classics" are neat but playing a game in 4:3, 480p standard definition nowadays looks like crap.

why not simply skin the current game to look like the original (but in HD) and add maps that match the original? No need for the story when you can see DLC under the guise of a new game...

I played the first Killzone when it released on the PS2, I liked it. Wasn't the best but it still was fun to play, had a blast playing it online though with some friends.

I only played the demo of KZ way back.
I wonder if it still had instances of Rico in these memorable moments.

screw the PSN release, this is one game that would REALLY benefit from a HD upgrade!
i wish they would release a simpsons HD collection too.
now that the arcade games released its made me really want to play hit and run again!

They should just redo it as an HD version with trophies and tweaked game play, charge $15 for it instead of ten.
How hard could that be? Way easier than making a game from scratch.
