Starbreeze Could've Used More Time In Developing Syndicate
Great video games require three things above all else: talent, money, and time.
And while Starbreeze Studios is quite proud of their recent effort, the Syndicate reboot, one member of the team said they could've benefited from more time behind the scenes.
During a CVG interview, Starbreeze co-op programmer Lars Magnus said the studio "could have done more" with an extra six months. Said Magnus:
"Let me put it this way: I'm really proud of the end result, but I'm not super satisfied. I want to have been able to have done more, but that's always the feeling you get.
Unless someone says, okay, enough, we need to ship it, development will go on and on forever more or less or until everyone gets bored with it. It's been a long production: it's good to finally ship it, but at the same time, you always think, if we could have had half a year more, we could have done even more."
For our part, we view Syndicate as a Deus Ex-like title with plenty of sci-fi appeal and depth typically not found in any shooter. We certainly hope it turns out well, and we hope anticipatory fans aren't turned off due to Magnus' comments; after all, in an ideal world, every developer would want more time to make their game.

I get that shooters are the big thing right now, but surely somebody could have made an original sci-fi shooter. Between this and X-COM, I have to wonder what's next. Maybe Sid Meyer will whore himself out and make Civ VI a death match between French Musketeers, English Redcoats, and Mongol Horse Archers.

still struggling to understand why this got banned, i mean the reason they keep giving us because you can dismember limbs and cause post mortem damage.
but then almost every game this gen lets you do that!
DNF for instance.
or fear 2 and 3 which let you do everything you do in syndicate, and are 10 times gorier!
or the darkness 2, that games just sick!
if any game should get banned its that!

As for developer crunch time. I'm simulating that now in a school course. We're doing game production assets under strict time constraints. And yeah, quality and deadlines have a delicate balance to be maintained. I'm pretty much convinced most devs could make most games today better than they are when released, given some more time. I feel pretty certain the devs who get ahead these days are not only the ones with the most talent but those with good Technical Directors who can increase production efficiency across the board.
