Prince Of Persia Creator To Rebuild An Apple II Classic
We've seen remakes and reimaginings and overhauls of all kinds this generation. Most have added a modern high-definition sheen to games from the previous era.
Now, another remake of sorts is on the way...but you gotta go a long ways back to find the original title. It's Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner's very first video game, Karateka, which he made for the Apple II when he was a student at Yale.
The game went on to sell over a half-million copies (which is ridiculous for that time in industry history) and now, he tells VentureBeat that he intends to revisit the classic and produce a remake for the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. Yes, all by his lonesome.
"Making the original Karateka was a labor of love. To have so many people embrace it and share their stories of playing it has been really rewarding. I am always surprised to hear how much impact that game had. In remaking Karateka, I want to honor the original game with a compact, pick-up-and-play game that is fluid, atmospheric, and beautiful."
If you forget (or if you weren't yet born), Karateka follows the story of a black belt as he invades an evil warlord's fortress to save a princess. ...yeah, that sounds awfully familiar for a game from those days. But hey, shut up...we liked 'em.

This game was on that compilation. It was freakin' hard, if I remember, (as most games were back then) but was kinda cool!
