Mass Effect 3 Trailer: Taking Back What's Rightfully Ours

For a great many role-playing fans, March 6 just can't get here fast enough.

In a new epic Mass Effect 3 trailer featuring some fantastic cinematography and beautiful visuals, we see humans struggling to - as the title says - "take back earth."

As most of you know, the third entry in this award-winning series will be the last; sadly, trilogies have to end. However, BioWare has stated multiple times that we'll probably see the Mass Effect universe again in the future, even going so far as to say we should keep our ME3 save file. It might be all over for Shepard and this particular story arc, but the name "Mass Effect" deserves more greatness, right?

If you're super psyched, you might want to follow a weather balloon around. ...no, seriously, don't you remember EA's promotional stunt? But if you're not lucky enough to get your copy early, at least you know the game is only a few short weeks away.

I still can't find a reason to care about this game. I know that's terrible of me, but I have such a backlog of games already that are in genre I really like. I just can't get excited over an action RPG.

Why are you trying to find a reason to like it? If you don't its nothing wrong with that. I love jrpgs and wrpgs but I don't like them all.

The reason to care for these games, in my opinion, lays entirely in the story and the characters. If you don't like the setting then I don't believe there is much reason left to play these games over any other game out there of a decent quality - at least the *main* reason is gone. All in my opinion of course.

But there really are some wonderful, colourful characters in these games. I gotta say that. Seldom has I looked more forward to return to a set of game characters again.

I'm in the same position as Highlander.

While I certainly respect the Mass Effect series and I'm convinced ME3 will be amazing, it just isn't for me. It's not the action element that turns me off as much as the setting.

Sci-fi has just never done it for me.

If you played the first Mass Effect and fell in love with the universe and lore they created, well you wouldn't look at this as the finest trilogy ever created. More like the most convoluted, and in a lot of cases contradicting trilogies ever made.

ME2 was a huge let down, and clearly made to cater to the CoD, FPS crowd. If you dissect the story it makes not a lick of sense either. Essentially it didn't even need to happen. I did love certain gameplay elements to it, and still enjoyed it as a game, but it ruined what I was anticipating the Mass effect trilogy becoming.

I'll get it when the price drops, I'm done funding greedy videogame corporations, who are more concerned with making "safe" games that sell a lot, than good games for different genre fans. Heck seeing Square on a product was enough for me to pretty much blindly purchase whatever it was, but even they have been tainted by the FPS craze.

lol Panda, my game backlog is 3 major titles plus some smaller games and my Vita with it's titles... Plus I know of 3 more games that will add to it this spring. So, ME3 can wait.

xenris, if you hate the game that much, why even waste you time and money on it even with a price drop?

you're definitely in the very small minority with ur opinion though, but id like to hear what in ur opinion didn't make sense about the story and what was convoluted. Its one thing to claim it is, but its another thing to actually state why. Your opinion would carry more weight if you provide reasons why you say what you say.

LOL at letting the backlog get in the way of pure AWESOMENESS! IMHO that is a massive EPIC Fail stance. I am this close to saying even Half-Life 3 may take a back seat to Mass Effect 3. 2 was so fantastic and the story, relationships and lore were ambrosia! I won't be done with KoAR and it will sit until I am done with Mass Effect 3. CANNOT WAIT!

That will explain to you everything wrong with the plot. Easier than me typing it here, and I was lucky enough to find this as its basically the exact problems me and my friends had with the game.

As for why waste money on it. Its worth 20$ to get it on the pc and play the multiplayer and check out the single player.

Remember I said I hated corporate BS in the video game industry I did say I enjoyed it as a game, or did you miss that part?

You will see the video game industry crash in due time. Its getting saturated with FPS games and every big developer trying to streamline everything for people so its as easy as possible and requires them to learn nothing that they aren't already familiar with. THAT is my problem with games, it used to be about testing your skill, and leveling up as a person, not some arbitrary XP bar so you can get perks to make you appear better. Or it was about playing through a great story, and now sadly its mostly neither of those things and definitely rare to find both in a single game.

Your, still missing what I have said. I do like a lot of parts in ME2. The story just ruined it for me, along with other things like adding Ammo clips and ruining other bits of lore that the first established.

I loved it because of its story, and I did like the freedom of choice in the gameplay. I actually was one of the people who didn't have any issues with the gameplay.

As for saying that I'm the minority, what does that accomplish? More people like the game so it must be a great game? Call of Duty and World of Warcraft are two good examples of good games that have taken over the world due to casual appeal, and catering to people who play games and want to "feel" bad@$% without requiring the actual player skill to do so.

I just got frustrated with ME2 because THAT was the direction it was heading. I hope ME3 is a nice blend between ME1 and ME2 but I'll have to wait for people who didn't like ME2 for the reasons I didn't to play it and give me their 2 cents.

I meant to edit my post but didn't get to it in time. I meant that CoD and WoW are examples of good but not amazing games, that have a huge following because of being streamlined and essentially dumbed down for the casual gaming audience.

I was trying to illustrate a point that just because a lot of people play something and like it doesn't mean that it is an excellent game, by standards that make a game great.

What used to make a game great ie a good story, fun challenging rewarding gameplay, is now all being replaced with, hollywood pew pew explosion stories, and gameplay that is quick to reward, without a need for pretty much ANY skill.

Played the demo and I find it awful.Boring combat so-so animations and graphics.I guess the story and rpg mechanics must be really good because I can't believe this game is so well liked.

Oxvial: Why not just enjoy a good story? Are you really unable to enjoy any other game than those with a turn-based (or whatever you refer to as "archaic") mechanics? I just don't understand this strict, technical focus on gaming.

No matter if the game is first person or third person or bird view or sub-view or real time or delayed time or stat based or reflex based or board based or highdef or grayscale or whatever: Chill, enjoy, relax and have fun! There's a LOT of great, great experiences within all genres and technicalities out there!

if this game had an archaic battle system, it wouldn't be as epic as it is. Old school battle systems such as turn based have their place, this isn't one of them though

So you don't like *any* third person game unless they are turn-based? Or is it - as I suspect - just cause this is labelled "rpg" that you don't like it - had it been called an "action adventure" (like Uncharted), would you have been all over it then?

You are putting extreme restrictions on yourself there buddy, there's plenty of really good games out there both amongst rpgs, shooters, platformers and action/adventures - and every other genre. I mean, the genre is just a label. A categorisation. They are all games!

ffs, it isn't even out yet and we're already talking about more coming, after a trilogy ending no less. Like GOWIV this just shows me that gamers have really low attention spans right now and just seem to NEED sequels no matter what the cost of story. Even Metal Gear isn't immune to the outcrys of more with usually no logic.

I'm a fan of ME, but if this was any indication of the game, i'd be extremely worried. This trailer was one big cheese festival!
It was like some Michael Bay film scored by the equally cheesy Hans Zimmer.
It's like any other bloody action "epic" trailer from the last few years.

Nonetheless, i'm sure i don't have to worry. The demo, whilst it stupidly didn't showcase anything outside of gunplay, was good. Reason being is that because i know what ME is about, i know it's going to be good regardless. One of my main criticisms about 2 was the mundane missions, this demo shown me the big improvements of life outside of cities and the Normandy in ME3. So here's hoping!

I loved the ending to the 1st segment of the demo. It was the good kinda cheese!

I don't know, "cheesy", I'd rather describe it as "pompous" I think, but yeah maybe a layer of cheese too. Then again the ME trailers has always been that IMO. They don't really show what the game or the story is about other than in very general terms.

But what you write about the demo is extremely interesting. I've not touched the demo, my plan was to start the game completely fresh, but that stuff you wrote there makes it really, really hard not to!

Put simply Beam, going on what i know of your ME fascination, you are going to adore it.
It's probably safe to say that it's going to be ME2, but on a much bigger scale, and not a scale that's too big it ruins it, as this trailer stupidly indicates.

I'll get it when it's down in price. I got Yakuza Dead Souls to get that month and a planned holiday prevents me from getting anymore.

That is literally the only criticism you ever have for anything Lotusflow3r. Its just to get people excited for the game, not to try and showcase how its become "cheesy" or "pompous" like those terrible Michael Bay flicks.

Although ME2 is about the only WRPG that I liked I am going to pass in favor of Tales of Graces F, releasing a week later.

I feel bad for you guys buying this on the PS3 because it's gonna be "Better with Kinect"!

I can't believe how lame it'll be to be issuing orders from the 3rd person with the Kinect. The voice commands shoulve been saved for like Skyrim. It's so silly watching the user voice the command and then have Sheperd repeat what you just said. Lame

Ya know something? I've been to MS' site every day since the story first broke about their free ME3 weather balloon/GPS promotion(even before PSXE), and not once have I seen even a hint of it anywhere there on-site???

So I'm wondering what gives here, have they run into problems with the government over using weather balloons, or are they still waiting for some other reason to even start it?????

Pretty damn stoked for this. Didn't want multiplayer anywhere near this game, but its actually extremely addictive. Probably one of the best versions of co op survival mode I've played in a very long time. And i normally get bored with that mode fast but this one has kept me hooked.

This isn't a hit towards anyone here in particular but i always wondered if those who dislike this game would sing a different tune had this been a ps3 exclusive or if Bioware would have released the first game on ps3 as well

im quite sure what the answer would be as well. Not for all people of course, but some who dislike it would claim another feather in sony's favor as far as top quality games go. Some of the ones who go out of their way to figure out why they dislike the game wouldn't do so. Thats just how things are. Both sides of the field are guilty of it at times

just can't wait for march the 9th to come quick enough, i really get drawn into the mass effect series played mass effect two god knows how many times now with about 5 game saves i'll be using for mass effect 3, i really was'nt going to play the mass effect 3 demo but i just could'nt resist, ehen the demo ended i wanted more an more mass effect 3 is going to be amazing an its the main title im buying this year.

hell, the demo even made me cry.
i just hope the story holds up, i hate the premise of ok the reepers are finally here, you have been waiting to fight them for 2 whole games now, and now you finally get the chance to and you run away!
