PS3 News: SingStar PS3 Almost Done, SingStore Packed

SingStar PS3 Almost Done, SingStore Packed

The SingStar games make you feel like...well, a star. And the upcoming PS3 installment should go above and beyond anything we've seen before in the karaoke-style game, including hundreds of downloadable songs. According to Paulina Bozek's SingStar blog over at IGN, the game is "in the final stages." Check out what she has to say:

"The SingStore is up and running here in the studio, and we've got hundreds of songs to download, at our fingertips. Finally we can browse through hundreds of songs and download exactly the tunes we want -- it's fantastic to have the variety and choice.

See, now that's a damn good idea. SingStore is the kind of feature that could help the game gain more popularity here in the U.S. - it's already a huge deal in Europe - because we all know how much we love control and customization. Furthermore, just think of the diversity available, which Paulina addresses in the post.

"We're also starting to think about all the less known songs that we want to put up there. It's all digital now, so space is no longer at a premium. We no longer have to agonize over the perfect 30 songs on the disc and we're looking forward to having some fun with it. I recently had a request for the band The Pixies from a journalist and it would be great to know what everybody out there wants, so if you have any special requests, let us know in the comments to this blog."

All of this is major news, considering just how big of an upgrade downloadable songs and nearly unlimited space really is. And based on the immense popularity of certain music-based titles like Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution, this massive overhaul of the SingStar franchise could be ultra-lucrative. But even if it's not, the devs still get props for putting so much effort into their project.
