PSN Undergoes "Significant" Maintenance Tomorrow

Normally, we don't waste headlines on standard PlayStation Network maintenance, as it's a fairly common practice.

But this one, as they say, is a little more "significant." And as such, it will result in a longer downtime and it'll affect just about everything related to the PSN, so get ready.

According to an update at the PlayStation Blog, the scheduled maintenance will begin tomorrow around 8 a.m. PST and go through 10 p.m. PST; a blackout period of about 14 hours. And unlike typical maintenance sessions, this one won't let anyone sign in for the duration of the work, and users won't be able to access the Store, Home, the Account Management option, or play games online. Furthermore, "PSN-enabled websites" - including the PlayStation Blog - will also be down during this period.

They ask you to check the official PlayStation Twitter feed to see when everything is back up and running. As for the reasons behind this particular round of maintenance, Sony isn't saying.

will this shedule maintenance address some of the issues with the psn...sorry sen? I've been having problems redeeming a code to download resistance: retribution and when I contacted sony about it they only gave me the standard, make sure you're signed in...blah blah blah

I had trouble redeeming a code too, if you are trying to do it from your account management thing (which didn't work for me) then go into the playstation store and try there. It took 3 tries but it finally went through.

I hope a new PS3 browser's include in that work.
I wouldn't mind seeing it done more like the Vita's "easier to use" setup.

if sony were to do that, they would do it on a firmware, not maintenance

The browser works much better now after the most recent firmware update. It's seemed to have fixed the crashing issues it had prior. I'm quite pleased with its performance now.

yea it works alot better now i'm using it regularly again. it was getting to the point where i just didn't bother with it. obviously it still can't compare to a computer but its real convenient just being able to hit up PSXE from bed xD

I haven't used my PS3 browser in quite a while, so I wasn't aware that it's gotten any better now.
Guess I'll have to go check it out again.

It's 10 times worse for me and I use it every day. I've had to reboot my PS3 as many as 7 times a day since the "upgrade".

It does allow more sites to work properly, though, when they'll actually load.

@Cesar

These day-long maintenance periods frequently precede new firmwares.

PSN is having problems. I kept getting booted from the store last night. I've also read reports people were having trouble accessing the store with their Vita's.

All the 1.2 mill Vitas you mean, World? That's really not that many in this context.

Same here Cesar. I'm getting some terrible download speeds right now. I had to download a 100ishMB update and it took about 10 minutes. The same size download on my 360 and computer takes a considerably shorter time.

Either Sony is preparing an overhaul of some kind or the PSN is simply overdue for a major maintenance session. Or perhaps it is both.

Sony already said themselves that will never happen. They said it is impossible due to the way the PS3 manages RAM. If they were to retrofit it, it would break most games. Sony obviously knows what they are doing since party works quite well on Vita. I would say Sony gave it their all but it is just not possible on the PS3.

Probably wont even notice it to be honest unless it is something in your face when you log online via an update or Home related or something. Oh well will find out day after tomorrow. Plenty of games to be occupied offline anyway. :)

I have had issues logging into Home for the past week or so, even though there have been a number of big additions to Home... so I am not surprised.

Anyway, lets see what improvements come forth...
