Assassin's Creed III Becomes Official

Yeah, we sorta already knew but now it's official.

Today, Ubisoft has announced that Assassin's Creed III will hit store shelves on October 30, 2012 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC, and as reported earlier, the setting will be colonial America and the Revolutionary War.

With a development cycle spanning 3+ years and twice the production capacity of any previous Ubisoft title, the third entry in this critically acclaimed franchise boasts a new hero who goes by the name Ratohnhaké:ton (good luck pronouncing that). Going by the simpler name of Connor, he has both Native American and English roots, and he becomes part of the age-old war between Assassins and the Templars. The press release says the title will feature "the most stylized and fluid combat" to date, and the landscape will be huge, ranging from "untamed frontier to bustling colonial towns and the intense, chaotic battlefields where George Washington's Continental Army clashed with the imposing British Army."

The game will also sport a brand new engine; AnvilNext, which "delivers breakthroughs in visual quality, character models and artificial intelligence." We said it when we first heard about and we'll say it again: we're stoked.

Jesus time is like bullet-time, everything slows down around you and you can move at normal speed.

Beat AC1 and loved it. Playing AC2 and think it's leap and bounds better than AC1. I am just taking a break right now. I will have to get back to it because it's a phenomenal game. What a great time period and location for AC3! The amount sub stories they could have in this version is huge! 3+ yr development cycle speaks volumes! Really excited for this one. This will be my first D1P for this franchise.

Well you stand there and a gaggle of AI-deprived fools attack you one on one, waiting their turn while you murder their friend. On top of that it's really closer to Dragon Age where you command and then he undertakes that maneuver at his own leisure. If he's an assassin he should be quicker than that shouldn't he?

Sorry, not inmpressed with the "Braveheart" trailer. A tad corny. Admittedly, not interested in the location or period of the game. And really, if the focus is on the combat, when the main theme of the series has been stealth... then I will pass. And sorry again. There is not much of a rich culture with colonial america, especially when the history and culture is not as rich as that of Europe, Middle East or SE Asia.

If they were going to do ANYTHING in America time period wise, would have been better off bringing it more forward to the Industrial age or just present day New York.

I will give Ubi the smarts on a good business decision to cater to American audiences and most likely Ametican 360 owners, but they are definitely going to lose the rest of the world to some degree.

I will pass this game and wait for the next series which I hope will take us to China or Japan. Now there's rich culture and history.

Yeah, there's no culture in colonial america where there's an indigenous population at odds with Europeans from all over who keep Africans as slaves while they attempt to toss off the shackles of the greatest empire of all time...

Yep, I am sure the focus of the game will be on slavery and the genocide of the native peoples by the evil badass Brit army and colonials (Brits/Dutch/French). The trailer certainly indicated that. Although I must have missed that part of the trailer. :/

Well lets say the bad ass Empire seemed to do well in Canada. lol. Especially with the War of 1812 in North America, and having to deal with the absolutely wonderfully nice French in Europe... Napolean I think his name was.

Makes me wonder what the real reasons were the original creators of the AC series left, other than money from other companies of course.

Granted they have only shown us I am sure a fraction of the game, killing evil British soldiers and their armies.

Yes the seasons aspect of it is okay, how it will be implemented not sure. Actually makes me wonder if the country side environment will be much like Red Dead Redemption.

The "Braveheart" reference is in regards not so much what slave owning George Washington said but just how it was presented. It reminded me of the not so accurate portrayal of William Wallace by Mel Gibson. lol. :P

Anyway, if the story if your thing, I am happy for you. Its always nice to have a variety of games to meet different peoples taste.

Like I said before. My hope is they go to China/Japan for the next series. With a little sidetrack to Tibet, and a long good stretch in India. :)

Wonderful. I started playing RDR and ACB in 2010 around the same time and loved both. But I couldn't help thinking how amazing it would be to combine gameplay elements and the feel of both games. Now maybe I can fulfill that desire. This year is an absolute beast. Even compared to the leviathan that was 2011. 2011 was the best year for PS3 exclusives. Now 2012 is the best overall year for multiplats.

This looks fantastic! Why is this boring? Because it's not a bunch of tall and short buildings? I love the previous installments, but the change is much appreciated. There are seasons that impact your travel as well. This video is just a teaser: not the entire game!

WTF does that have to do with assassins creed!?
am i the only one who is a little worried about the story in this?
through the whole AC series we have been fighting the templars, and now the enemies are the brits?
sorry, but this looks as much assassins creed as resident evil 5 looked resident evil!

So in the trailer where he blows the guys head off.... how does he get the weapon to fire without squeezing the trigger ?

I.e. the weapon would have a trigger guard so he would have to manually squueze the trigger which he didnt do. The rest of the video looks cool, although I could do without the cheesy dialogue.

That "cheesy dialogue" was from an actual speech Washington shouted to his army before the Battle of Long Island. Show some respect man.
