Quantic Dream To Unveil New Project, Tech Demo Tonight
Heavy Rain is one of our favorite games of the generation, and a step in the right direction for the industry.
Ever since we reveled in that experience, we wondered when developer Quantic Dream would stun us all again. The studio has been pretty quiet about their plans thus far but according to Eurogamer, the silence ends tonight.
Evidently, Quantic Dream boss David Cage will take the stage at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco and unveil his team's newest project. He'll show off a tech demo and talk about the philosophy behind it; you may recall The Casting tech demo for Heavy Rain (see it below), in which actress Aurélie Bancilhon does her mock audition for the game. The tech demo scheduled for tonight will serve a similar purpose.
We couldn't possibly be more excited. If there's one mystery project we've been most looking forward to, it would have to be this one.

It sort of reminds me of that episode from Futurama, where the gang head out to the theater and right before the actor makes a decision, the audience is asked what he should do. They pull out their devices and choose one of the three or two options, even though it was predetermined. lol
Anyway, while there may be a medium for this kind of game, I personally wouldn't want it to be the norm unless they incorporate more of a game in its storytelling. Instead of QTE's, perhaps we have full control over the character. I understand that it was to give the player a sense of urgency, but I'd like to take control of the reigns.

Not only do I believe that this was a step in the right direction, it was a nessesary one.
Up until then games were based of the same formula: go here, do this, and get this reward.
Never has a game been this emotionally driven that you literally cried with Ethan.
Sure it has some of the same traits your average game has, only it felt more real. Not once did I sit back and think this is just like a movie, but I do remember thinking this is better than 90% of all the movies I've ever seen.
I'll be patiently waiting for this title (whatever it may be) because QD has earned every once of the respect they have gotten from me. I only wish more developers would take it in and follow suit.

I'd say HR-style games have plenty of future, but as one genre in many. Clearly, just like every game won't be like CoD (although many have foolishly tried and failed), every game won't he like HR either :).

It's a step in the right direction because it is clear that QD want to diversify the gaming options that people have, which let's be honest, are not as broad as they could be right now. They said they aren't doing a sequel to HR and clearly want to do something new this time - that's an attitude I wish more developers had.

Same might go for this new Kara demo. Even when Kara is not the star of the game, Quantic Dream might have reused their new project's themes as part of the tech demo. Which means we might get a futuristic theme in the ir new game.

if i could choose 1 company to work for QD would definitely be it.
heavy rain was such a amazing title and the tech demo was just as emotional!
ive always wanted a game exploring the whole robot concept, robots becoming human.
but, well, lets just say its not reached its full emotional story telling potential!
now they have the perfect developer for it, if QD cant bring the best in the genre then no one can!

I'm one of Cage's biggest fans, so you can definitely count me in for anything he's doing.
