David Cage Talks Kara Tech Demo

Yesterday's Quantic Dream PlayStation 3 tech demo wowed the gaming world.

And of course, the questions quickly began to flow: "Is 'Kara' Quantic's new game?" "What does this demo have to do with their new project?" "When can we hear more about that project?" Well, all in good time, all in good time.

We do know "Kara" is not the team's new game.  As for more answers...well, just be patient. While you wait, you can always listen to Quantic boss David Cage talk about that demo and field some interesting questions. The interview went up at the European PlayStation Blog, and Cage addressed questions like, "How has your technology evolved since Heavy Rain?" Cage doesn't get into too many specifics but he's always worth listening to.

Whatever Quantic Dream is working on, it's obvious that it's gonna look pretty damn amazing when it finally arrives. Also, it may help prove that the PS3 hasn't been tapped out; indeed, it may have a long way to go...

What I thought was most amazing from Cage's interview, is that he stated that the Kara demo is actually one year old.

So just imagine what he can do now since all this tech keeps on progressing.

I thought the same thing. Makes me wonder how much better that clip would be if rendered with Version 3 of their new engine.

The problem is that just because Kara was running on a PS3 that doesn't mean the new game will be ready in time to even be a PS3 game. If my 2014 prediction is correct that's only 2 years to make the game. I really hope they are already working on it and just won't talk about it yet.

I hope by the time I'm an old man I can order a Kara :)

I have been thinking the exact same. Isn't this more likely to be a PS4 launch title?

Whatever Quantic Dream's next game will be, be it connected to Kara or not, I am definitely going to keep tabs on it. Heavy Rain still remains as one of my favourite games from this console generation. If Project Kara is anything to go by (and that was completed a year ago), I'm confident that Quantic Dream's next game would be something revolutionary.

I really think Sony should just buy the studio, because even David Cage himself is open to the idea. They share the same vision when it comes to developing games, after all!

Why would they show us Kara if it's got nothing to do with their new game? Just to show off their engine?

Pretty much. That's why they called it a tech demo. Same with what S-E did with Final Fantasy VII when the PS3 was first announced.

The same reason they showed that "Casting call" demo before Heavy Rain :)

Damn! I am very impressed. I wish this is a game that I can play just like Heavy Rain.

I see a strong abortion parallel going on here. Whether it was intended or not. I suspect not. Powerful stuff. Actually teared up there.
