Sony Keeps 20GB PS3 In Japan

We reported yesterday that Sony had officially discontinued the 20GB PS3 model, but if you still want one, you could always import it.

For now, Sony Computer Entertainment plans to continue selling the lower-end model in Japan, according to IGN and a SCE representative speaking to Famitsu.com. As the rep said-

"We're currently not considering changes akin to North America. However we would like to react flexibly with the market."

And if you take a look at Japanese retail stores and websites, it seems clear they're still carrying the 20GB PS3. The prices have remained the same since the launch - or, since the prices have settled from the "open" pricing - and each console currently costs 49,800 and 59,800 yen, respectively. So at this point, the discontinued announcements seems to only apply to the U.S. and Europe (we think).
