New Dead Or Alive 5 Action: Hitomi And Ayane Square Off
I was never into fighting games that much but I have to admit, I have great memories of the Dead or Alive series.
I'm not sure if everyone remembers, but DOA2: Hardcore for the PS2 was a fantastic showcase of that system's capabilities early on. I was also working at EB at the time, and it was an employee favorite; tag-teaming and pizza at the manager's house after closing was common for a while. ...wait, that didn't sound right.
Anyway, the point is that while the fighting purists will laugh, a new DoA always turns my head. I know it's not the toughest, I know it's not the fastest, and I know the devs still use the "jiggle" appeal to get young men to buy the game. But I don't care; these games are usually pretty damn solid from a technical standpoint, and loads of fun. Here's a new trailer for Dead or Alive 5 featuring Hitomi and Ayane:
Now, call me crazy, but it actually seems as if Team Ninja has dialed down the jiggle factor. Then again, maybe it's just because of the costumes they're wearing in this trailer. By the way, if you want to try out the anticipated fighter early, you can always spring for the Ninja Gaiden III Collector's Edition...you want that game, too, right?

They just feel they want to be part of something that separates themselves from the crowd, because that's what they want. So the fighting purists only care about the mechanics, the challenge, etc. If it's "fighting lite" and worse, if there's an added mainstream gimmick (like bounciness), they're going to mock it. It's what those people DO.
Needless to say, I don't think they're very happy people. ;)

These are often the same people who have no appreciation for the female form in art.

I'm very well aware of DOAs play system as I used to be highly engaged with a crowd of fighting purists/hardcore where we discussed the differences between their fight systems, timing, and unqiue properties. There were/are a number of things DOA was doing that other fighters werent at the time.
DOA4 did take DOA to a higher level, so complaints about depth have largely subsided, but as it is DOA hasn't gotten enough credit in the past for what it has done, and those who know the system well, know it's not a joke or an excuse to look at pretty girls.

Oh and if you want to see the most epic fights ever created by fans that put regular game developers to shame, check out "Dead Fantasy." It's a brutal fight to the death between all the best Final Fantasy girls and Dead Or Alive girls :)

If you enjoy beach sports and ladies jiggling in bikinis you can get DOA Extreme Beach volleyball (which is actually extremely relaxing to play) on Xbox 1, DOAX 2 on 360, and DOA Paradise on PSP :)

OK, I just have to ask the question, that seems obvious to me. Why would anyone want to be a purist? Games are supposed to be fun. why else would you put two insanely cute and reasonably well endowed young ladies in a brawler like this? Why is it sad or somehow 'off' to enjoy such a game when the fighters are cute girls but it's a-ok if they are burly dudes with buzz-cuts? Holy crap, if it's supposedly titillating to watch the female characters going at it (double meaning very much intended), then what makes watching the two muscle bound manly men doing the same thing any less titillating (albeit in a homo-erotic manner rather than hetero-erotic). I mean why criticize male gamers for enjoying playing with female characters, but not male ones? I don't get the differentiation. Personally I feel it's quite natural for a heterosexual player to want to play with characters of the opposite gender, and perfectly understandable for players interested in same gender relationships to play with characters of the same gender as them self. Not that that would be their only choice of character. I'm just saying that I don't see why people feel the need to belittle people that like pretty, cute, or simply 'hot' characters in games.
