Square Enix Confused: Why Did Activision Ditch True Crime?
What was once True Crime: Hong Kong is now Sleeping Dogs but for a long time, the project was shelved.
A title by United Front Games, Activision was supposed to release True Crime: Hong Kong but eventually, they just dropped the idea. Since that time, Square Enix picked it back up and is now running with it; the interesting part is they seem to think they got a bargain.
Why? Because according to what S-E London's Alastair Cornish told IncGamers, the project was in "great shape."
"...when we first saw the title we were scratching our heads trying to figure out what Activision were playing at because we thought it was in great shape."
He added that they gave the developers more time, and commended United Front Games on the particular aspects of the title that were impressive. Also, with experience in the action genre this generation, Square Enix has brought some upgraded knowledge to the project, which should prove useful. True Crime has always been an interesting series; relatively well-received by critics and gamers, and always sporting a really intense, gritty, in-your-face atmosphere and style.
We'll be looking forward to Sleeping Dogs, and we hope Square Enix is right when they say the developers know what they're doing.

i really liked the first true crime in L.A. had alot of good ideas and a really kool dark gritty story. just didn't hold it all together but it was still a fun little game.
the 2nd one in NYC was a complete technical mess that really disappointed me.

Sorely needed changes..........
When I first saw the title's new name, "Sleeping Dogs", I was scratching my head trying to figure out just WTF the Square Enix boneheads were thinking about because I thought the original franchise title name of "True Crime: Hong Kong" would have been perfect.
See? All fixed!!!!!!

Sort them by atmosphere, important events in your lifes timeline, or in relation to each other, or origin, or release date, or preferably, a combination of them all. :)

Relax.
I feel like I could tell you I slept with your mother last night, and you would believe me if I didn't put in sarc or joke tags... AND you wouldn't be as offended. That's the weirdest part.

FFXIII-2 is a decent game.. and dues ex was fantastic.
I am totally looking forward to tomb raider and hitman..
Just because sqaurenix made ff13 and some of you people don't like it.. doesn't mean all games they publish will suck.
I was quite interested in true crime b4.. we'll c how the reviews turn out before i make a judgement to buy or not.

im convinced antyvision did not can it because of quality, but because they wanted to put resources elsewhere.
or maybe they had a disagreement with the developers on licensing or something.
theres certainly a hint in that now that $E has had to change the name.
why would you can a game in a series, but keep the license if you were not interested in releasing it down the line?
there obviously interested in it just not at the moment which makes you wonder why give it the green light in the first place!?
