Namco Bandai Teases Dark Souls Fans With "An Announcement"

Yeah, we hate "announcements for announcements," too.

But they definitely get people talking, don't they? We've been wondering when we'd hear something about a new "Souls" (Demon's Souls and Dark Souls being the first two) and now it appears something new is indeed on the horizon...

The following vague hint can be found at Namco Bandai Community Manager Rich Bantegui's Twitter page:

"Check it out DARK SOULS fans - An announcement is coming......"

Let that discussion begin. Some believe he could be referring to the long-awaited PC version, while others think he's talking about upcoming downloadable content, which has been rumored in the past. Then again, it could be the best possible announcement and be a whole new game in a similar universe. You know, one of those hardcore RPGs that enthralls millions around the world and reminds everyone that indeed, the die-hards still exist...? People love those.

We'll let you know whenever Namco Bandai spills the beans.

What a great idea for a user handle. "MurderTurtle". I may have to use that.

I respect ridiculous humour, but that's just not sporting. At least make it a snapping or ninja turtle.

I remember reading about a petition for a PC version some weeks ago. I suspect it's all, or partly, to do with news of porting it over to PC. I know my older bro will love this. He being largely a PC gamer, but he also loves the heck out of this gaming series. I suppose those who were annoyed by the supposed slowdown issues can now have a version where, horsepower provided, could make it the best performer of the lot.

I'd lay my bet on DLC, it's always DLC.

It would be the first time DLC comes to a Souls game so is not a safe bet.

And none of them had DLC. And when they are asked about DLC they always state not being fond with the idea. One of the reasons this people are so awesome.

Daisuke Uchiyama, Chief Publishing Producer for Namco Bandai:

"As announced at Gamescom, we are not planning any DLCs for Dark Souls. The game is deeply balanced with its exquisite enemy placements and map designs. We intend on focusing a lot of our resources towards fine tuning and balancing the game, and feel that additional content such as DLCs may hinder the game balance we have achieved for all players who pick up this game.

It will be such a great pleasure if there are many voices from fans asking for DLC, but I am very confident that the game is fully complete and everyone will be satisfied with the game without any additional contents.

In addition, we have emphasized RPG elements so that players have multiple ways of enjoying the game and exploring the vast world we have created. Depending on the role a player takes in the game will impact the actions carried out in the game and the different RPG elements will bring many variations towards how a player can play their own roles. This is another reason why we think we do not need DLCs."

The petition isn't telling them to make anything, it was just asking for a port of the game. That's a pretty reasonable request. It's not like it's asking for a new ending or anything.

Well actually Yu Suzuki (the artist) always wanted to make Shemmue 3 but he just couldn't find funding for the project.

The lead game designer said theres no plans for dlc as there is enough content in the game already and it gives everyone the same experience. Dark Souls dont need dlc so i hope its a new souls game announcement.

Too early for the announcement of a sequel yet, unless From Software hired an extra three hundred personnel. They've only just release Armored Core V and Steel Battalion is in the near future. They wouldn't have had time methinks. And, considering this is from NB and not from... From(?), I'd say that they've ported it to the PC.

DLC... No, no.

Mayhaps, though I get the feeling it would lose lots of sales to pirates.

Them Somalians are indeed crafty blighters...
But fans have petitioned for it, and it wouldn't take a HUGE amount of effort, considering it was already ported for the 360... They could recoup their losses with a relatively low number of sales, and the PC crowd responds to games like this. Look at The Witcher. It's popular enough.

I hope it's a pc version. My interest in the Souls games has always been low to mid, but getting it on pc would definitely raise that.

I am predicting a PC release. Recent evidence points that way.

Also, I always thought DLC for Demon's Souls would have been a good idea. They could have repaired the portal stone for the Land of Giants. Ever since I knew DS wasn't getting an actual sequel I thought DLC would be a good idea to open up this new land. I for one would really enjoy a 3rd installment.

However, I am also glad that there is possibly a whole new fan base that could enjoy Dark Souls. Everyone should get a chance to play it.

i think they should make a third, make it like the first with like stages with checkpoints within them, but make more make like 10 stages instead of what 5 or 6 were there? then make like maybe an areana dlc where you can battle hordes of enemies keep the multiplayer idea though i like the phantom dark phantom thing and the messages and you call the 3rd game "Doomed Souls" that would be a good final installment and add a more rpg story but keep the difficulty..well i dont really care for the story cuz thats whats unique about this game and of course make even more items and weapons and armors...and i think maybe add a little more new multiplayer features i really like the areana idea maybe that could be where you could actually talk and converse with friends and you can earn souls for single pplayer there it would be kinda cool just an idea
