Slant Six On ORC: We Did What Capcom Wanted Us To Do
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is not good. ...and that's a polite way of explaining it.
Usually, when this happens, the developers tend to crawl into a hole and nurse their wounds. But Slant Six has responded to the poor critical reception; studio producer Mike Kerr told Eurogamer that those low scores have been difficult to take. Said Kerr:
"It's challenging. A lot of people put a lot of time and effort into the game and obviously we'd like to see the review scores be a little better than they are right now. In the end, I think our position on it is that we read every review and we try to pull out all the constructive feedback that we can so we can learn a little about what people liked and what they didn't."
But he also said he thinks his team was successful in creating the game Capcom wanted. This probably will annoy long-time fans of the series, who already dislike the new action-oriented direction taken by Resident Evil 6, but Kerr clarified:
"Then we look to what our internal goals were and what Capcom asked us to do and I think we accomplished what they wanted to do--we took the Resident Evil franchise in a different direction."
Ah yes, the "Western" direction you should never have attempted in the first place, primarily because the franchise's loyal followers never asked for such a change. Maybe not the best plan, Capcom.

And I know that many gave Capcom producer Masachika Kawata a lot of hate because he said RE games need to be more like CoD. However, most RE fans have no problem with the action in Resident Evil games either. Why?
Well, today it was made public that Operation Raccon City (ORC) made its debut at #2 on the UK charts. It's on the news today. Look it up.
The fact that ORC is selling well only vindicates Capcom and Producer Kawata. And only illustrates the hypocrisy of the Resident Evil community that despite hating that RE6 will be an action game, they tend to support action Resident Evil games like ORC. And I can speak about that, since I'm a member of a few Resident Evil forums and I see a lot of support for ORC on those forums.
So yeah, If gamers don't want Resident Evil to become an action or shooter series, how about they stop supporting action games like ORC?
That would be a good damn start, wouldn't it?

Slant Six doesn't necessarily have the best history when it comes to successful shooters. Had the game been left to Insomniac, Naughty Dog, Visceral Games, or any other studio with proven 3rd person shooters I'm sure the title would have fared better with the gaming press.

With that said, hopefully Capcom now realizes that isn't what the consumers wanted. Can't blame Slant Six for doing what they were told. But I'm sure they wernt told to create a game with horrible AI and I even read one review, where the reviewer said it was often that he would fall through the game, often! I don't think Slant Six realizes a lot of the bad reviews are because of the development, and not so much that it's a different type of RE game.

DONT FEED YOUR FANS THIS BULL SH*T!
NOTHING pisses me off more then when companies treat their customers like morons!
so crapcom wanted you to make a buggy boring as bat sh*t game, with the worst AI ive ever seen, poor graphics, and repetitive level design did they?
im sorry but i find that VERY hard to believe!
and bull tap dancing sh*t fans are happy with it!
hey, the games been out ONLY a few days and when i took my copy back to my local store today the manager mumbled oh great another return.
i look behind the counter and she had a pile of at least 30 operation raccoon games with preowned stickers on them.
so i said to her wow its really that bad is it?
she said ive never seen returns like this, out of all the copies we have sold only 2 have not been returned!
TWO!
and thats slant sixs idea of satisfied customers?
2/32?
really?
wow, no wonder these guys cant make a half decent game with piss poor standards like that!
what does that say about fans loving the game?
yeah they loved it so much they returned it within 5 days of release!
either A there full of sh*t.
or B they really believe this tripe and cant tell the difference from a sh*t game, this, and a half decent game!
exactly why i always say its so unfair how amazing studios get shut down after 1 game, and shit lazy a$$ developers like slant six get to destroy franchise after franchise after franchise!
do good work thats it your fired!
do shit work congratulations heres your next project.
how the hell does that work!?

Hard to understand how you can fail so much when you re basically making a re-skinned socom game that you already have experience with . With that said i really doubt they can learn much from people feed back and reviews .

Now its the same thing thats happening with most companies. They see CoD making ton of cash while having almost no production cost and they try to emulate it. Blame the zombies that keep buying the same game every year at full price for the bad changes we are seeing in the video game world trying to westernized. Or we should say all the companies trying to CoDized lol

I won't let this title lowwer my expectations of RE6 as I thought it looked generic from the first few screenshots. I really think they might be able to pull something off this time with RE6 and hope they do.
