Ridge Racer Unbounded: Build Your Own Track From Scratch

Update: It seems this game was mysteriously released, despite the delay announcement.  The 360 version has been seen in GameStop, although nobody can seem to find the PS3 version yet.  Why it was "undelayed" we don't know.

Original Story:

No, editing in games is nothing new. Heck, I still remember watching a friend build stuff in old-school FPSs on the PC back in the 90s.

But building your own racetrack at this level of detail probably hasn't been done too often outside of karting games. Check out the basic and advanced track editing that will be available in the upcoming Ridge Racer Unbounded by Bugbear Entertainment. You can create some speedy thrills!

You can either place entire city blocks from a bird's-eye view or you can get in there and move individual pieces of pavement around. It seems to be a pretty in-depth and dynamic editing program, and the results can be pretty freakin' cool...but what's with all the explosions? It sort of reminds us of Split/Second the way the tracks are set up. Check it out:

Just bear in mind that we won't see this one until later in 2012. It was originally supposed to launch on March 6 but Namco delayed the game, saying the developer needed extra time to add "more features." ...maybe this enhanced level editor is one of those features.

damn yeah, just been looking at some vids, looks like split second 2! well..if i imagine what split second 2 would look like.

looks like its not a 'adding more content' reason why RR isn't coming to the states this week, as the game was tweeted to of been finished two weeks ago. they did delay for more content, but that's all been done.

by the looks of it its because they have some shipping issues with the States. anyway, on track for the UK from what I can tell.. and on track to my PS3.

btw, i reserve to right to be wrong about why its not coming to the states yet. :)

Editing is always a fun addition to games. If anything, it really validates how creative some people can be. However, it also can validate just how much more creative the actual game designers are compared to the masses. Either way, it's fun to mess around with.

My first experience doing something of the sort was the map editor that came with Tenchu 2. That was hella fun ;)

Why am I only hearing of this game now?! Where's all the marketing and publicity.

Wishing I'd not spent my last £40 on movies now.

lol, i do hate some of the kids on this main page, why were you marked down for that?!

anyway, yeah i feel that this gen they really haven't pushed marketing as far as i believe they should.

anyway, yup it's coming out, weird thing is that official playstation mag have scored this something like 7/10... yet retro loving up their own backside Edge magazine scored it 9/10... lol, my how things change.

i so so hope this turns out decent!
ive been begging for a open world racer ever since paradise came out, and it looks like criterion are too busy f*cking up the NFS franchise to do a sequel!
so this is all i have.
:(
on another topic though what is it with japanese publishers lately and delaying games the day before release?
this has been saying march 29 for months now!
so they wait till march 28 to push it back.
sigh.
oh well at least they did not pull a konami and wait till the day of release when im in the store to delay it!
