DICE Seeks Engineer To Take Frostbite Into Next-Gen

Nowadays, you can't go one week without hearing about another developer working on a next-generation project.

The latest is Battlefield developer DICE. The team has a job listing for a senior software engineer and the term "next-generation" is easily spotted in the job description.

The successful candidate will work to implement new features, keep track of performance and memory, and further optimize the popular Frostbite engine for current- and next-generation systems. The engine in question has already been seen in games like Battlefield 3 and Need for Speed: The Run, and it will return in this year's Medal of Honor: Warfighter. Obviously, it's an engine EA and DICE want to push into the new generation of hardware, and we doubt anybody is going to complain.

Wouldn't it be interesting if DICE was preparing Battlefield 4 for new pieces of hardware like the PS4 and Xbox 720...? Personally, I still want a sequel to Mirror's Edge and although EA has said they're not abandoning the idea, I'm starting to lose hope.

I think the Frostbite 2 engine is a huge accomplishment. BF3 looks soooooo good when buildings are getting blown to smither... eeens. Lol. I think we're really going to see what it can do when close quarters dlc comes out in june. I really can't wait to see what they're going to do with next generation.

My early congratulations to whomever gets the job!

With todays level of graphics i'd expect next gen graphics to be like looking out a window!
Some devs teams might be ready for next gen but i'm not.

Mirror's edge with Frostbite 2.0 or 3.0? Man that would be amazing and I pray every day that they do do a sequel but I have the same feelings as Ben and that makes me sad. :(
