PSXE Poll Update: Gamers Not Convinced Of RE6's Potential

If you did this poll after Resident Evil 4 blew people away, and asked if RE5 would be great, we get the feeling the results would've been different...

And while there are still plenty who believe the upcoming Resident Evil 6 should be downright fantastic, there are just as many (actually, a few more), who simply "aren't interested."

According to our recent poll, it was almost an even split between the wholly positive and the decidedly skeptical, and that may be new territory for the iconic franchise. Most hardcore fans seem annoyed at the new action-oriented direction; some are flat-out saying, "this ain't survival/horror." And maybe it isn't. Capcom themselves have called the new installment "dramatic horror" and obviously, there's a distinction. The question is, can RE6 still maintain that classic RE feel even with a tweaked gameplay mechanic...?

This week, we just gotta know: Do you want GTAV or a new Red Dead more? While Grand Theft Auto is probably still the second-biggest game franchise on earth behind Call of Duty, Red Dead Redemption had a big impact on a lot of people. And after the recent rumor that supposedly involved the confirmation of "Red Dead Rebellion," we could be in for a fresh Western unveiling.

I want GTA more than any other Rockstar game period but I still want the next Red Dead and I would love to see them turn L.A. Noire into a series. Also I hope they do episodic dlc for gta again.

If there's any Rockstar game I want to know about, it's Agent. That's if it really exists. LOL But between GTA V and Red Dead Revolution, I think it's proper for GTA V to come out first since GTA IV came out years before Red Dead Redemption. Maybe, just to keep things fresh. I can't imagine an RDR game that's not set in the wild west.

Between the two, it's hard to say. The last installments had about the same replay value for me, but overall, even though I thought 'Grand Theft Auto IV's story was a big leap from what came before, 'Red Dead Redemption's was still better than that, in my opinion. So probably the next 'Red Dead', if only by a little.

Since there wasn't any "both" button, I had to vote for GTA.

But with that said, I also want RRB 100% as much as I do GTA.


Edit: And as bebestorm said above, I also want another LA Noire too.

GTA V or the next RD ? doesn't get tougher than that but i gotta go with GTA. even though i liked RDR more than IV. GTA is still my all time favorite franchise alongside MGS. but hey whatever there both gonna be D1P's for me :)

I'm partly skeptical, partly excited.

I'm hoping for a bigger inventory system, something like RE4 or Dead Space, I hated RE5's 9 slot system inventory!!

I'm also hoping for less dramatic music, scarier atmosphere and more emphasis on the unknown....

Wait, you know what, forget Resident Evil, everything I listed is in Dead Space!! 'Scuse me, I'm off to play my favourite survival horror game...

RDR sequel for me, never been a GTA fan. Also LA Noire sequel as already mentioned by others before me.

I'm willing to give RE6 a chance since, I didn't exactly hate 5. Enjoyed enough to platinum it. Just a few minor gripes but I had fun playing coop.

I felt the same way about RE5. It didn't quite nail the execution as well as RE4, but I still enjoyed it. And I'm psyched for RE6.

Thematically, I never had much interest in the GTA series, so picking Red Dead is a no-brainer for me. I will say that there's one aspect of Red Dead that I hope they address, although I don't know that it bothered anyone else.

I felt that as the game went on, there was a certain predictability that started to show up in the storytelling. There was a kind of bleak vibe that infused the game -- someone you thought was sweet-natured turned out to be buggo insane, someone who you trusted turned out to betray you, etc. At first it worked for surprise value and often as dark humor.

But after a while, it became kind of rote, and I found it to be a bit depressing. Especially when I knew that someone was going to backstab me or was playing me for a chump, yet the game offered me no options for completing the quest with that understanding in mind.

So, great game in a lot of ways, but it wore on me because of that aspect. Oh, and I got heartily sick of the skinning animation.

Definitely a new Red Dead. While I really appreciated the new, grittier direction of GTAIV, it's game play felt very dated. Plus with all the talk of returning to the craziness of previous games, I'm very uninterested. I can't blame Rockstar for doing it, since I'm definitely in the minority, but it certainly puts Red Dead in front of GTA for me.

I do believe I'm in the minority because I'm not even remotely excited for either game. I watched my brother play RDR and when GTAIV came out it was the only game one of my friends would be playing whenever I came over. That and hearing about it any time I talked to him so I got burned out. But I hope the people that are waiting for either one have fun with them.

The part where you play as Leon is the one i m interested in ( look survival horror enough , at least seem to have the atmosphere)and the part where you play as Chris is the part i m skeptical about .

Anyway , if a partner is not forced on you it will be a day 1 purchase for sure .Otherwise it will depend on what else is out in the same month .

thats one thing ill never be able to understand.
RE4 took the series away from survival horror and turned it into a mindless shooter!
people went apesh*t over it!
its one of the highest critically acclaimed games of all time!
then RE5 goes and does exactly the same thing and the flaming torches and pitchforks are brought out.
what the?
turn RE4 into a mindless shooter = good.
turn RE5 into a mindless shooter = bad.
how does that work?

im looking forward to RE6 simple because i enjoy killing zombies!
it wont be a proper RE game thats for sure but i really dont care to be honest.
ive given up on wanting survival horror games im more likely to wake up tomorrow and be served breakfast by enzo ferrari himself!
then given the keys to my brand new F1 car.........

i'm not really in a hurry for re6, re5 was so so. I just think some franchises need to stop and lately with playing a few resident evil games i just think they need to stop,but re6 could prove to be really good we'll see i have more games that are more intersting to get first.

RDR were clearly better than GTA4 in my opinion, but still... If we ignore the last one there's no other single player franchise I've spent more time on average than the GTAs. So yeah, my vote is clear: GTA 5 ftw!
