Desmond To Have A Bigger Role In Assassin's Creed III

Although Desmond is technically the protagonist in all Assassin's Creed titles (he's the dude whose memories we always explore, after all), he's never a focal point.

And let's face it, most fans didn't really like playing as Desmond, anyway. We wanted to play as his crazy capable assassin ancestors! That's where the fun was. However, it seems that despite a new assassin ancestor in Connor, Assassin's Creed III will boast even more scenes with the modern-day character.

According to CVG, lead writer Matt Turner said Desmond remains a "big part of the story."

"All I can say about Desmond's story is you're going to experience more Desmond than you've ever had before. We're spending more time on the present than we have in past games. It's a big part of our story and I don't really want to give too many details away because I want people to experience what that is. But rest assured, you're going to see a lot of Desmond. More so than in any past game."

Well, so long as his gameplay sequences are interesting. They've never been too bad in the past, but they've always paled in comparison to the actual gameplay, which involved someone like Ezio and a timeless city like Rome. The other big problem playing with Desmond is that you're always in the current time, which just seems boring after exploring historical vistas that encouraged full immersion.

But maybe Ubisoft has a few tricks up their sleeve for making Desmond's sections more appealing...

I am glad that this has been in production for a while. Good games take a lot of planning. This game looks more impressive with each new idea mentioned. I want it to be better than Assassins Creed II and Revelations. It would be interesting to see what happens next, but I do not want to have this game come out every year.

Ugh, I was hoping this game would feature 25% less Desmond.

I don't know why people hate desmond so much. He's not that bad. And his sequences were actually pretty fun. I think people have a misconception that his parts were lame because the Ezio/Altair parts were so freakin' awesome... especially in comparison.

I actually liked the Revelations sequences! It was a nice change of pace!

But the music and atmosphere when in Constantinople or Rome... well, that's kind of a hard to beat atmosphere... for any segment of any game.

Ugh I hated the Revelations Desmond sequences. I barely made it through the first one once and never the second. The first person control was NOT in my area of comfort! :)

i've always found desmonds story very interesting from the very first game. his sequence midway though AC ll was one of my favorite moments of the game.

definitely happy about this big time.

I am stoked! to be able to play as Desmond. I've been wanting to play as him since you got a little taste in ACII. He was how this story all started, and when they came out with brotherhood...i felt it was just a filler.

Im really interested to see how HIS story ends, if the war with abstergo ends or continues. Im sure since Ubi will want to make more AC since it is so popular that the war will be on going but anything is possible.
Im ready to see Desmond in action.

Well, thanks to the 'bleeding effect' Desmond should be much more capable nowadays. Hopefully playing as Desmond shouldn't feel much different (control wise) than his badass ancestors. We'll just have to wait and see what Ubi can do immerse us in Desmond's story.

I'm looking forward to it either way. I won't pass any judgement until I play it.

I liked the Desmond "practicing" sequences in AC II... it was pretty cool that he couldn't die... In revelations it was a good change of pace but I hope they make some good fun out of these new Desmond sequences.

All I have in mind is a Desmond that'll possess all of his ancestral moves. More likely a nod towards Altair/Ezio. This would not only use a proven formula for entertainment, but it'll mix up the new gameplay without the latter style losing it's freshness throughout the game. I dig it!

deja vu.
could of swore i read this story weeks ago!
aaaaaaaaanyway........
so it f*cking better!
im still a little miffed on this being another go back to the past memories and find something else, instead of fleshing out ACs real story which is finding the pyramids and stopping the end of the world.
i really thought that was what this game was going to be about, especially after the ending of revelations and where desmond says i know what i have to do know.
whats that?
go back in and do what you have been doing for the past few years!?

eh, whatever, as long as they put the glyphs in AC2 back, have heaps of massive cool buildings to climb, and it has a in depth story like AC2 ill be happy.
especially the story, AC2 had one of the best stories ever put into a game!
really missed that quality in the past few games.......

I just started playing revelations finally and man do I feel burnt out on this series. I'm only a little ways in but it just feels the same. I really do not like the TD in the game. It's not a fun gamestyle in my book and hope it doesn't come back for the 3rd game.

I really hope III feels different than the last 4 games and not just look different.

I thought it interesting that in the Desmond sequences (#3 possibly?) in Revelations he told a story about his childhood in the Black Hills of South Dakota. That is a very Native American location. His parents kind of sounded like they were hippies, but possibly they were actually aboriginal.

I have no doubt that Desmond's role in AC3 will be right on. Ubisoft has created an incredible depth of story through this series and I totally trust what they're doing with the Desmond character.
