Legend Of Dragoon Becomes A Digital RPG Treat On May 1
Oh, happy, happy day.
As most RPG fans will tell you, The Legend of Dragoon was a memorable experience. Although it didn't necessarily score off the charts with critics, the game managed to generate a fiercely loyal following. And now, it's coming back...
In a great post by SCE President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida over at the PlayStation Blog, we learn that the classic PS1 RPG will be coming to the PlayStation Network on May 1. It's really cool to see Yoshida reminisce:
The project began in 1996 and the number of people working on it swelled to over 100, which was basically unheard of in those days. The game launched on four discs (even Final Fantasy VII only had three) and it's also interesting to note that the team "re-balanced" the difficulty for its Western release. They did that quite often in that era, actually.
Also, here's another cool tidbit:
"I still occasionally hear from fans of The Legend of Dragoon, and many want to know if there is a sequel. LOD2 was put into preproduction after I left the Japan Studio, but was eventually cancelled for some unknown reason, and the team members moved on to different projects. Some people still work in the Japan Studio, so we talk about the memories of developing LOD when we see each other at company functions."
He finishes the blog post by saying, "Love live LOD!" And we couldn't possibly agree more.

jRPGs on Playststion can so distinctly look anime in style that they've warded off a guy like me. I'm fine with anime-like influences but I want my epic RPGs to have epic art detail, not the simplified anime stuff where adults have the body proportions of little girls but with huge boobs who sport little pink colored pig tails and round child like faces that are all proportioned as a youth would be as an art instructor would define it.

And Ben like you pointed out the critics really didn't care much for this game and that just goes to show me that most of them don't know what they are doing ;D
@World
I don't think it shows that there is something wrong being that this is a old school masterpiece. Though I agree JRPGs just haven't been the same for quite some time . There are several games from the PS1 and PS2 era that when released will garner huge amounts of support, but I personally don't feel that it is a knock on the current state of gaming. It just shows that those titles meant that much to the fans(again to me).

Anyways I still have my physical copy too, but despite that. I think everyone should still go ahead and buy the digital copy on day one to show some support. Tell them were still here so we can see some sort of remake/prequel/sequel/spritiual or whatever you want to call it.
For me when I was younger, it was one of those few psone games I could play over and over.
