Legend Of Dragoon Becomes A Digital RPG Treat On May 1

Oh, happy, happy day.

As most RPG fans will tell you, The Legend of Dragoon was a memorable experience. Although it didn't necessarily score off the charts with critics, the game managed to generate a fiercely loyal following. And now, it's coming back...

In a great post by SCE President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida over at the PlayStation Blog, we learn that the classic PS1 RPG will be coming to the PlayStation Network on May 1. It's really cool to see Yoshida reminisce:

The project began in 1996 and the number of people working on it swelled to over 100, which was basically unheard of in those days. The game launched on four discs (even Final Fantasy VII only had three) and it's also interesting to note that the team "re-balanced" the difficulty for its Western release. They did that quite often in that era, actually.

Also, here's another cool tidbit:

"I still occasionally hear from fans of The Legend of Dragoon, and many want to know if there is a sequel. LOD2 was put into preproduction after I left the Japan Studio, but was eventually cancelled for some unknown reason, and the team members moved on to different projects. Some people still work in the Japan Studio, so we talk about the memories of developing LOD when we see each other at company functions."

He finishes the blog post by saying, "Love live LOD!" And we couldn't possibly agree more.

Oh I hope so, this is a game I've always wanted to play, but the PAL version is a rarity and so expensive. even if this just reaches the US store it'll be a day one purchase from me.

Wow impressive afte all this time... He should of kept the information about the sequel being cancelled to himself. I still have the physical copy. Still nothing from Sony about ps1 games on Vita.

I remember after playing this when it was released hearing rumours of a sequel. I also saw concept art of Dart but he had blue armour and longer hair. I haven't been able to find that art since then, which was well whenever this game released.

I really wish someone would do a traditional JRPG sequel to this game!

This is going on my PSP, I never got to get far in the game but I did enjoy what I played of it back in the day.

There's something seriously wrong with the state of the JRPG when people are more excited about a re-release of ancient PS1 game than anything modern coming out these days.

Japanese RPGs have fled to Nintendo platforms it would seem. Gamers and critics alike seem to be loving the climate over there.
jRPGs on Playststion can so distinctly look anime in style that they've warded off a guy like me. I'm fine with anime-like influences but I want my epic RPGs to have epic art detail, not the simplified anime stuff where adults have the body proportions of little girls but with huge boobs who sport little pink colored pig tails and round child like faces that are all proportioned as a youth would be as an art instructor would define it.

I agree with you world, it is a sad state we're in when the old is so much better then the new, perhaps the devs will wake up and give the old fans what we've been wanting this entire gen!.

Anyways, this is a great game, a really good buy for anybody that likes rpgs, it's not perfect by any means, but still a good game to play threw.

really? I rather like the huge breasted anime girls. I'd go over to Ninty for my JRPGs but I want a controller not a waggler.

I still have my physical copy, but I still might consider purchasing it just to show support to one of my favorite RPGs of all time.

And Ben like you pointed out the critics really didn't care much for this game and that just goes to show me that most of them don't know what they are doing ;D

@World
I don't think it shows that there is something wrong being that this is a old school masterpiece. Though I agree JRPGs just haven't been the same for quite some time . There are several games from the PS1 and PS2 era that when released will garner huge amounts of support, but I personally don't feel that it is a knock on the current state of gaming. It just shows that those titles meant that much to the fans(again to me).

Ben, only the professional critics gave it a hard time. The fans/customers actually felt the game was very good. Was sales bad or something?

Anyways I still have my physical copy too, but despite that. I think everyone should still go ahead and buy the digital copy on day one to show some support. Tell them were still here so we can see some sort of remake/prequel/sequel/spritiual or whatever you want to call it.

For me when I was younger, it was one of those few psone games I could play over and over.

My backlog of rPgs is too long to get this one yet. I do distinctly remember this game when it hit the market. I loved the character art and would draw their characters from photos in magazines back when I was in middle school, or was it highschool? Anyway, I allowed critics to persuade me at the time that the game wasnt particularly spectacular with softer 7s being the norm with 8s as a higot I I never got around to playing it even though my gamer radar was saying PLAY ME You'll like!

I have never had the opportunity to play this, but have wanted to for some time, now if only Sony would allow my vita to play my ps1 games.

I don't know why, but I never loved this game as much as other people. I still think it's fantastic, and an objective analysis at the time would strike up good reviews, but I just didn't jive with it. I loved the 1st disc so much, but then I felt the others were lackluster.

Don't kill me. Please.
