Sleeping Dogs Dated, Pre-Order Goodies

The game formerly known as True Crime: Hong Kong now has a date and plenty of attractive pre-order incentives.

The ambitious, gritty project from United Front Games is slated to land in North America for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on August 14. If our preview has piqued your interest and you're ready to toss down a deposit, you should know that GameStop, Amazon, and Best Buy have goodies a-waitin'. Just gotta be proactive.

If you pre-order at Best Buy, you'll get the Georges St. Pierre (GSP) Pack, which features GSP's signature "flying punch," granted by an exclusive GSP outfit. The outfit also has the benefit of increasing grappling and throwing damage. If you opt for GameStop, you'll nab the Police Protection Pack, which includes a special "High Speed" mission, an HK Police SWAT outfit, an assault rifle, and a SWAT police vehicle (all exclusive to the retailer). If you'd rather go with Amazon, you'll receive the Martial Arts Pack, which grants you the "Shaolin Showdown" mission, the Shaolin Warrior outfit (increased striking damage), bonus Triad XP points, and a Wing Chun decoration for the safehouse (with temporary combat buff).

As we've said before, this reminds us of a crazier Yakuza, and that could mean lots of entertainment.

See? This is BS.....

This is another thing I'm hating about this gen of gaming, different missions from different retailers, so that no matter who you wind up buying it from, you're going to lose out of the other 2 missions.

What the developers should be doing is no more than to unlock maybe a gun, car outfit, etc from the actual game earlier.

But since the developers are now in bed with the retailers to get all the extra dirty money they can, this is just another customer-screwing tactic that's going to wind up becoming the norm too

Why should we gamers be deprived of extra missions just because of which retailer we get it from????

Come on developers & publishers, stop f*cking your customers & cut this crap out altogether.

rapture06,

Why the "Ignore" comment????

Do you really think I care if you ignore me or not????

So I'm guessing by your other "later DLC" comment, what you're really saying is that you've got no problem with shelling out more money money for those "supposed" DLC's later then, HUH????

Crazier Yakuza?

Looks like an asian influenced GTA. Yakuza ain't nothing like them.

However, if i see the main character of Sleeping Dogs going into kareoke singing a song called Machinegunkiss against a steampunk backdrop, twirling his mic stand or taking pictures of insane and impossible events to learn techniques or running an orphanage, befriending a homeless who may help you in battle via throwing you a handy pillow amongst countless other things.....i may take that comment a bit more serious.

Anyway, excited for Sleeping Dogs!

Question to anyone that knows: These "exclusive" deals, do they usually remain exclusive or will I see most of that exclusive content as dl in some months following release?

with the exception of the PC build, the demos I've seen for the console versions have some of the most horrendous tearing I've ever seen in an open world game. I really want to believe in this game and hope they make leaps and bounds in optimization before it is released.
