Need For Speed Movie Inches Towards Starting Line
Well, why not? "The Fast and the Furious" turned into a pretty popular movie series, right?
According to Variety, Electronic Arts has tapped brothers George and John Gatins ("Real Steel") to turn the iconic Need for Speed game franchise into a feature film. John Gatins and EA will produce the project, United Talent Agency will shop the script around to see who might want it, and Warner Bros., Sony and Paramount have apparently expressed interest.
"The Fast the Furious" owner Universal is the only major picture company not in the running, but hey, they've already got their racing movie franchise. Believe it or not, last year's Need for Speed: The Run was the 18th game in the series, and in actuality, it did have a movie feel to it. So a real film isn't exactly a stretch. Thus far, the NFS titles have generated over $100 million for EA since the first title debuted back in 1994.
It's likely that the movie won't exactly be Oscar-quality. But then again, NFS hasn't been in the running for Game of the Year that often, either.
