PSXE Poll Update: GTAV Still A Top Priority For Gamers
Red Dead Redemption was an impressive accomplishment and it managed to garner quite a few loyal followers.
However, while a fair portion of those polled wanted a new Red Dead more than Grand Theft Auto V, the majority are still going with GTAV as their most-wanted open-world adventure from Rockstar.
They have yet to fully unveil either title in question, but at least we've seen a debut trailer for GTAV (which got us crazy excited, and then Take-Two went all mute on the subject). As for a new Red Dead installment, there have been rumors swirling about a follow-up effort; the latest claiming that it's currently in development and is called "Red Dead Rebellion." But regardless of how it all stands, GTA is still GTA, and it remains the dominant franchise, despite Red Dead's impressive coming-out party a few years back.
This week, Sony is seeking to build more revenue after announcing record losses, and some analysts believe this could involve a number of different moves. Could one of them be a lowering of the PS3 price tag? When it fell to $299, that sparked quite the sales surge and it lasted for a good long time, too. Then again, Sony is finally earning a profit on the machine so maybe they don't want to cut the price too soon... What do you think? Price drop this year? Or not until much later?

I'll say a $50 price cut for Xmas. The unit will only be their main console 2 more years so I could see that cut happening to spur as many sales as possible in that short time.

GTA will surely shift millions of units, but the lower the price the more units will shift continuing to entrench Sony's platform across the world... These "burst" titles that come out give the PS3 a huge boost every few months landing few million additional users to its base, so why not make it as attractive as possible while you have an advantage!
The Apple, Google onslaught is incredibly powerful. I see it when using my tablet. I am spending more and more time on it - its so convenient and I can do so much on it. I am also mightily impressed with the raft of newer games that are starting to come out. The Tegra3 zone is particularly active.
Dropping the price of the PS3 would probably not hurt Sony. I mean it is best to commoditise the hardware, almost giving it away, but then charge for all other services and games related to it. I think this "pay-as-you-go" model is really the only way to make sure the actual hardware sticks and stays at the forefront of a gamers mind.
If the hub services and games are the best in the business, the hardware will pay for itself...

with vita trying to compete with 3ds & not knowing tablets are slowly taking there audience, sales havent been so great. my kinfolk ready to buy a tablet she wants a ipad but she looking for that bargain. her primary reason is she can take it wherever with access to all forms of media including games. 2 years in the ps3 cycle i told her the ps3 capabilities besides gaming & she she still viewed it as a device meant for younger audience.
with the economy & the drive for the tablet wave growing consoles will sell but not at the rate they did. i think GTAV will sell as much or more then COD been hearing folks on the net & streets anticipating it. next COD sales will be major i dont think record breaking again cause folks are catching on its the same with slight change & dlc.

there finally making a profit on each unit sold and dropping the price will make it even more cheaper then the vita!
its at a good price point, what $ony needs is some god dam games!
cant believe i just said that, the past few years they have had them coming out the wazzoo!
this year though, well, besides warhawk which .0001% of their fanbase is interested in, and sly 4 which is a pretty old franchise made by a new unproven developer, what else does the ps3 have to offer?
pretty disappointing, last year we had a exclusive every few months!
i really really hope the last of us releases this year, $ony really needs it!
or at least the last guardian, but im no holding my breath on that one.......
or david cages new game, but knowing them they take their sweet time so we wont be seeing it any time soon!
$ony does not need a price drop, they need a reason for people to purchase their system in the first place!
as for GTAV i really hope it turns out like a proper GTA game!
not like the last one, we dont need another boring a$$ taxi driver simulator!!!!!!!
i really hope R* takes a look back at their roots and take a look at what made the serious so famous.
what made saints row so famous.
what made just cause 2 so much fun!
please oh please R* bring the old GTA we know and love back!!!!!!!!!!!

But I don't think it would hurt to do a minor price drop of $25 just before this 2012 holiday season, just to jump start PS3 sales a little quicker.
Plus, just think of all the games and accessories new PS3 buyers will be wanting/needing/& clamoring for afterwards.

Grand Theft Auto V
