Analyst: Prototype 2 Won't Sell As Many Copies As First Title
These days, unless you're a really big fish, you might drown...or get eaten.
Many say Prototype 2 is one of the most anticipated titles of the year, but a new report from analyst group Cowen and Company suggests that the game will "struggle" to hit the half-million sold plateau in the U.S. during its first year.
Analyst Doug Creutz has adjusted his prediction for Activision's fiscal 2012 EPS from $1.05 to $1.01, saying that Prototype 2 will probably have a "soft performance" on the sales charts, and won't manage to sell as many copies as the original title. He also mentions that neither the PS3 or 360 version of the game has broken into the top 100 charts at Amazon, which he says is "typically a bad sign for actual sales." Added Creutz:
"We had been modeling the title to slightly exceed the 900,000 U.S. units the original title sold through during the year after its June 2009 launch. We now believe Prototype 2 could struggle to reach 500,000 first-year U.S. units."
Then again, maybe that giveaway campaign will hit its mark. After all, that's a damn sweet prize and all you have to do to make yourself eligible is use your GameStop PowerUp Rewards card. ...then again, maybe that will only result in better sales for GameStop and won't affect Prototype 2 at all.

LOL! No they cannot. Prototype was an absolute turd of a game. You won't find many people that think it was better than inFamous 1. The review scores reflect that as well as the great majority of people who played them who say Prototype was nothing compared to inFamous. inFamous didn't receive a glowing reception because it was worse or no better than Prototype. I'm sorry but you're a bit delusional if you think otherwise.
Prototype is like one of those crappy Hollyweird movies that is released at the same time or shortly after, within the same genre that tries to ride the coat tales of the blockbuster of the moment. The game makes a better table coaster.

But just because you can find people who claim Prototype is crap doesn't mean it represents the majority. I enjoyed Prototype and nothing more. I can find a alot of people who thought Infamous 1 was forgetable as well. It's all preference. I mean Transformers War for Cybertron wasn't popular among critics and even I would rate it a 7-7.5, but it is one of my favorite games.

Yes i brought crackdown in to this argument. Back when i was actively playing both my 360 & Ps3. I would be playing both prototype & crackdown on my 360 as my copy of inFamous & my Ps3 would b collecting dust. Even with me just being a playstation owner now i still cant get my self to finish off inFamous.

Crackdown is a fun game..Crackdown 2 was addicting. But in no way is inFamous a poor mans Crackdown. Completely different games and inFamous is still better than Crackdown.
With that said..Prototype 2 is going to be far better than the first. I think some people will be surprised.

yea the original disappointed allot of people but allot of people really enjoyed it too so i would not be surprised if it ended up selling better.
not to mention the original prototype had allot of competition, there were heaps of games that released the same time!
prototype 2 though, well what else released this month for people to enjoy?
JACK!
well theres the witcher 2 but most who buy that wont be interested in this anyway so that does not count.
point being allot of people will buy prototype 2 not because they think its going to be great, but simply because its the only thing out!
next game that releases after that is sniper elite V2 which is not out for 3 weeks afterwards!
id be surprised if it does not beat the originals sales.
not to mention if its actually a good game, then it should smash them no problems!
hopefully, sadly prototype was another one of those awesome concepts poorly executed games.
sigh if i have to say that about another game my heads going to explode!

What I find discouraging and why I don't post here nearly as often as I used to is that some members here think that they hold the authority to tell others that their opinions are wrong. Opinions can't be wrong by definition because it comes from personal preference, of which we all have differing taste. Then, comes the name calling which makes grown people seem like children.
Can't we just respect each other's opinions and varying tastes and agree to disagree on some games? Why does it have to come down to name calling?

There isn't any reason to belittle anyone for having differing opinions. It doesn't show the community in a mature light and it turns off some people.
I mean, what's wrong with saying "I don't really agree with your opinion on this one, I think (game x) is much better than (game y)" and leave it at that? Why does it have to come down to "You're delusional" or "The psx god". Both of the latter statements make those involved seem like children with no interpersonal communication skills.

but didn't feel as polished or have a story as memorable as Infamous.
I bought Infamous, played Prototype at a friend's house. Even he said Prototype got boring after a few hours once the thrill of taking over helicopters and tanks had worn off.
