God Of War Developer Hiring For Complex New Shooter?

God of War: Ascension is coming, but developer Sony Santa Monica has something else in the works, too...

According to a Gamasutra job listing, the talented team is seeking a senior combat designer for a currently unannounced new IP.

The successful applicant will have experience working on first- and third-person shooters, and it would also help if they've dealt with vehicle combat as well. This person must also see "boss designs through from concept to execution" and we catch the word "magic" in there, too. So...uh...a combination of God of War, Uncharted, and Twisted Metal? Or should we expect something like Bioshock - which is part shooter, part RPG - only with the inclusion of vehicles? Whatever it is, color us excited; these guys are plenty capable and the new project sounds awfully ambitious.

Ambition is good. Yes, you can say we already have too many shooters but really, if it's something like Bioshock or The Last Of Us, only even more inventive and creative (if that's humanly possible), would you really be disappointed? We wouldn't.

Weren't similar listings on the site last year? Anyways, I'm gonna say that they've decided to follow through with Heartland...

Not to mention that Jaffe isn't with Santa Monica anymore, and while E,S,P were aided by the outfit, that doesn't necessarily mean that they were privy to the internal secrets.

Besides, Jaffe lied about debuting TM at E3, he'd do it again :)

If it's a third person shooter.Please make it like Binary Domain.Otherwise don't go into this genre.I think Binary Domain is like God of War and Uncharted.With Big boss battles and awesome weapons.If SSM will do good if they learn this game.Ofcourse story wise it needs to be as good as Binary Domain.

Wow someone else who likes Binary Domain! Honestly its probably my favourite TPS in a long time. Super solid but sadly went right under everyones radar. Even Bens apparently.

If Santa Monica thinks they can reinvent the common shooter then I wish them the best. I'd still prefer Heavenly Sword II though.

The fact that the team has been split up so a few people can churn out GOW Ascension is worrisome.

Not necessarily split up. The team was supposedly around 105 people during GoWIII, and they're soon going to upscale to 200, if what I read is correct. More than enough to work on two games and besides, if work on GoW:A started straight after the previous game, it's already been in development for two years, so they'd have all they need for it and full production could just be beginning on this new game.

That's a good point World, would love a Heavenly Sword II... still haven't managed to finish the first one though. I am stuck on a particular level I cannot pass :(

This seems like a step in the direction I have dreamed of as I grew up. It has all the elements. Imagine an open world action adventure RPG. Hand to hand and weapon combat ala Tekken and Soul Caliber. Vehicle Combat and Racing ala Twisted Metal and Gran Turismo 5. All seemlessly wrapped around a mindbending adventure of epic proportions. Akin to the experience found in titles like MGS4 GTA5 and GOW3.

That right there is my own personal gaming nirvana. Finally! I hope!

Just please, not another railed we-don't-care-what-you-do-here's-what-you-shall-see affair. We got too many exclusives like that as it is, tyvm.

Also, not another multiplayer-centered shooter, please. You don't stand a chance against the major multiplat mp games, a hugh number of players is critical for a mp game. You will fail. Make it a long, exciting and creative campaign instead, with a focused storyline free from the worst cliches. And above all, don't end up being just an unchained fun-park shooting gallery.

Make it a good, focused, quality shooter and I'm all interested in hearing more. Throw in a neatly integrated storyline coop mode on top of that and I say SOLD.

oh GOD no please come on dont we have enough shooters already!?
if there doing a car combat game make it a massive open world game like burnout but obviously with guns and missiles.
if its another one of those BLUR type games where its restricted to tracks then no thanks!
we have MORE then enough track car combat games!
TM may of been a massive disappointment, but that does not mean we need a new car combat game ALREADY!
how about you get to work on a genre we dont have 100 others releasing in!?
how about a game like LA Noire, heavy rain or maybe even a survival horror.
my god, its almost like originality is illegal in this industry!

lets not forget that heavenly sword had stages where you shot arrows or cannon balls where you could guide the w sis-axis motion if you chose. I would assume shooter experience would be needed for that. Assuming Kai would be the main protagonist...her weapon of choice is twing twang...so yea..draw your own conclusions

yeah like some people above me have said; i just assumed this is for point/reticle/aiming shooter type mechanics to be incorporated into a classic GOW package
