Brink Sells 2.5 Million Worldwide
If you get enough people to enjoy the online multiplayer, the game should be a success.
Despite an only average critical reception, Splash Damage's Brink has apparently managed to sell plenty of copies and generate quite a bit of revenue, according to the developer.
In speaking to Gamasutra, studio CEO Paul Wedgwood revealed that Brink had sold 2.5 million worldwide, which has resulted in "120-$140 million in revenue." Obviously, though, not all that money went to Splash Damage, as they weren't the publisher. However, the team does plan to become a publisher soon, as they've announced their Warchest publishing program, which will focus on free-to-play games. First on the list is RAD Soldiers, a turn-based multiplayer strategy title set to arrive on iOS in June.
It's a little surprising that Brink managed to sell so well but it did have a lot of hype behind it, and it could be lots of fun with enough people...well, enough good people. But that's the same with all multiplayer-oriented titles, right? The campaign wasn't very good, that's all.

PC version was actually a lot better, I tried it out for a free weekend event on steam and was surprised.
Hopefully if they make a Brink 2 they polish it up and fix some of the weird design choices, like headshots not being 1hit kills, and grenades doing pretty much no damage just knocking you over. I see why they did this, as they wanted to try and make it more balanced and fair for casuals but in the end it was just a little poorly executed.

normally the first 2 are instant sales failures, let alone add the 3rd one your dead!
i guess allot of people bought into the always online idea of it, even the campaign was moddled on the MP!
i always thought the ratio of MP gamers to SP was about 1:1 if not leaning towards the SP side.
but now im not so sure, look at all the games that are doing so well 99% of them are MP orientated!
not to mention if i had a nickel for everyone saying a game sucks, i ask why and they say oh the MP id be a multi billionare by now!
RAGE for instance, everyone ive spoken to who does not like it their reason is the MP.
ahhhh you do realise the whole point of the game is the campaign right?
drives me nuts!!!!!!
oh how multiplayer has killed the gaming industry!
hey, thats a good subject for a article.
