Pachter: GTAV Might Ship On October 23

Most believe we won't see Grand Theft Auto V until 2013, but recent evidence has hinted at a fall 2012 launch.

The latest to support the idea is Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter, who in speaking on the latest episode of GameTrailers TV said Rockstar's hotly anticipated blockbuster will ship on October 23. If true, the fall just got crazier.

He acknowledged it was too close to Take-Two's Bioshock Infinite, which is slated to release on October 16, but he added that he doesn't think Rockstar cares much. However, it would have to compete with quite a few high-profile titles in that span of time; Assassin's Creed III launches on October 30, Halo 4 is set for November 6, and it's now very likely that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will hit store shelves on November 13. That's quite the lineup.

We might learn more about GTAV at this year's E3, because Pachter says he thinks Rockstar likes to "steal the thunder from everybody else." There's no doubt that the new GTA will be gigantic, but can it survive releasing in the midst of the busiest part of the year...? Well, of course it'll "survive;" the only question is sales potential when up against CoD and Halo...

No, those other games will have to compete against gta ;)
I see gta releasing before the holiday rush, and breaking all the record sales numbers.

GTA will easily beat halo 4. The only game that it has to beat is CoD, which it will by the game iself but by sales... I hope it does. GTAV GOTY but thats if the last of us doesnt release this year which i doubt it will. You cant rush perfection and if GTAV does come out this year that kind of worries me because it feels like it was sorta rushed.

rushed ? rushed!? dude GTA IV's 4th anniversary is tomorrow 4 full years! we've had like 3 assassins creeds. 2 uncharted's and 2 saint rows. in that time. rushed i think not

Wish the analyst was right but with just one trailer out for the game and next to no info on it , let alone it's release clearly shows the game will be out 2013.

That would be a great birthday present from R*. It doesn't matter when GTAV releases, it will sell like crazy. I don't see any reason for them not to release in October if the game is ready.

yeah, like i needed another reason to think this guys a idiot!
there is no way in hell 2K are going to release bioshock infinite and GTAV, 2 of their most highly anticipated and most popular franchises ever within a few weeks of each other!
its like $ony releasing the vita and ps4 within a few weeks of each other, there just going to canabalize each others sales.

You're right and wrong at the same time because 2K doesn't own Rockstar. 2K is an entity of Take-Two interactive, and Rockstar is also under their umbrella.

Your comment would have been more accurate if you said "Take-Two Interactive would be stupid to allow them to be released so close together". Heck, the simple act checking their Wikipedia page would have explained that to you.

In addition, do not bother to respond with a massive wall of grammatically incorrect text with a complete lack of proper punctuation because I won't bother to read it.

i really can't see this game coming out this year it would be a dumb move for sure there are to many games coming out around the fall months plus they really need to make sure it's 100% completed i hate when developers push a game out to quickly and it looks like crap. I have high hopes for this game as long as they take their time.

Yeah the question is whether it is better to release it during the Holiday season when people want to spend money on games, albeit with more competition - Or do they release it in early 2013 where there is less competition but there is also less money to be thrown around for video games.

I don't think they will ship it until 2013. Look at how Rockstar has slowly unveiled Red Dead Redemption and LA Noire during the year up to release. I think they are doing the same thing with GTA 5 and they will ship it in 2013.

GTAV - Day 1 purchase! Hope the release date is accurate, since I'm not interested on another yearly sequel from any of the rest mentioned (AC - Brotherhood rocked, AC - Revelations bored me and losed interest, MW3 and Black Ops were lesser sequels of MW2).
