Maybe We Won't Get Final Fantasy XIII-3

...and a lot of fans who haven't been thrilled with Square Enix this generation are probably applauding right now.

Some time ago, sources discovered a trademark filing for "Final Fantasy XIII-3," which of course generated plenty of discussion concerning yet another FFXIII sequel. After all, why register the domain if you're not going to produce a game of that name?

Oh, lots of reasons. And one of them could be a "defensive measure." According to Andriasang, Square Enix PR representative Akio Ofuji explained that the name was only taken as a precaution by the publisher's US office. As it turns out, the name was registered without the Japanese branch of the company knowing about it; the whole situation involves some voice actress apparently assuming FFXIII-3 was real. And this doesn't mean such a project is in the works.

Square Enix hasn't actually denied the possibility of FFXIII-3, but they're far from confirming it. Some fans also thought we'd get another installment because the ending to FFXIII-2 leaves a lot of questions unanswered. But Square Enix replied that this was for the sake of the Paradox Endings (in that the primary ending should inspire you to see the alternate climaxes) and upcoming DLC. That didn't go over too well, by the way.

Oh, and don't forget that Square Enix is supposedly going to announce a surprising new title later today. We'd get all excited and throw up a news story about it, but we know better these days...most of the time, it just turns out to be another DS title we don't care about.

Good thing they are giving out any information, a release window, or anything else about Versus. I would hate for them to tell us about that game. Really glad that instead of doing that, they are announcing some other game that will most likely be for the DS and yet still somehow take resources away from this mysterious title that has been hinted to exist. (Disengage sarcasm mode)

so the REAL ff13-2 ending is gonna be released at 1 hours long 5 dollar DLC (like the other 2 story related dlcs weve gotten)? I hope not

ff vs 13 is probably multiplatform by now.It was a good dream but im afraid its time to wake up

Versus seems to be vapour ware at this juncture. I don't care if it's multiplat or not, I would just like to know any type of status at all.

I'll be waiting for a XIII-3... There is no way they can conclude something like that in an hourly dlc installment. After the ending of XIII-2 (which I won't spoil.) there is definatly a changing point for the 'saga' as a whole and feels there is still another games worth of content to explore. I have yet to buy into any of the XIII-2 DLC, I thought I'd be whoring it all up, but none of it has caught my interest at all. For a Final Fantasy fan like me not to want new FF content... S-E is certainly doing something wrong.

If XIII-3 is never released, then XIII-2 will remain a complete failure, I enjoyed the game, but if what presences its had leads to knowhere... I wish it would have ended with XIII...

My thoughts exactly... Hey Ultima, do you think we are the only ones who want a FF XIII-3? I seriously don't know why people hate on FF XIII-2 that much, I mean, of course I would want SE to stop the bs and roll out Versus but That's not the other games fault. I thought the gameplay in FF XIII-2 was great and the new characters (Serah, Noel, Yeul and especially Caius) were awesome... Seriously, why all the hate?

Well, a lot of people think it's cool to just jump on the hatetrain for S-E, sure they have under performed this gen in general but they have also released some of the best titles, XIII-1 still stands as my 2nd best game this gen & Nier would definetly be in my top 10. But if you had either a PSP or DS you would see where S-E has been really focusing. They have re-released so many titles to a fantastic standard Dragon Quest IV - VI, Final Fantasy I - IV, Dissidia, the KH titles, then there is Crisis Core which certainly prooves they've still got it after the disaster of FF7:DoC.

When it comes to XIII-2, It was an enjoyable game. was it up to the standard of past FF games, no, but I did have fun with it. I thought Noel and Cauis were fantastic additions, one of my main complaints about XIII was the lack of a strong connection to the antagonist and XIII-2 delivered on that. I enjoyed the new gameplay mechanics, especially the monsters, I was worried having only Noel & Serah would feel lacking but with Mog too I never felt a problem with the party.

But as for XIII-3, I just like to see things done corrrectly. I would feel cheated if they finsihed the FFXIII series with some DLC after XIII-2. XIII-2 ends with some interesting characters left with motives which I want to see explored correctly. Had they left it at XIII-1, I would have just wanted FFXV, but now XIII is not incomplete, I want them to finish what they started.

*sigh* The fact that Versus has gone vapor is a good indicator that XIII-3 is coming, combined with the fact that XIII-2 was a scattershot mess of uselessness that ruined what little good came out of the first game. And it's another way to cash grab since they sunk themselves financially by acting like idiots.

Either way. If it comes I'd still probably play it, but I'll get it used so they don't get any of my money. That's right, money is speech now b*tches.

I read somewhere that It's The world ends with you 2, sooo It did turn out to be another DS title but I for one do care about it if It's true... The first one was awesome...

That turned out to be false. That article was just someone guessing what Siliconera's SE announcement was and it turned out to be a FPS by the makers of Nier.

Since FFXIII now includes cheaply implemented time travel, who else reckons Square-Enix could pull off new levels by turning Versus XIII into FFXIII-3?..?....???...?

After the ending they gave us in XIII-2, I would want to see a XIII-3. Contrary to people disliking XIII-2, I quite fancied it, aside from the curveball they threw in my face in the last minute of the ending. I want to see what happens, but not at the sacrifice of Versus.

Don't worry, if it's a choice between XIII-3 and Versus, I would go with Versus, but I still do want to see the main XIII entries conclude.

I don't want FFXIII-3, i loved the first but they ruined the story in the second just to fixed the complaints about the first. I just want a new game, FFXV or Versus. I'll just pretend that FFXIII-2 is a paradox effect that should never existed. How far can they expand the story for XIII-3 without decimating the story from the first game, and i don't want to explore the same location and fight basically the same monsters all over again. Just make a movie like advent children to conclude the story.
