Source: Work On Bayonetta 2 Halted

Most assumed a sequel to Bayonetta was in the works, as the first met with high critical praise and enjoyed relatively high sales.

But according to SPOnG citing a source "familiar with the situation," Bayonetta 2 has been shelved due to Sega's "ongoing restructure." Boo.....

Apparently, at least some work had indeed begun at Platinum Games, but development was then halted. Last month, Sega announced a drastic restructuring of their Western consumer business, not long after posting a terrible fiscal performance. It was rumored that several projects had been canceled and now it appears that a Bayonetta follow-up was one of the casualties.

The character of Bayonetta will appear in the upcoming Anarchy Reigns, a flashy brawler with great multiplayer potential. And fans of the sexy bespectacled witch definitely wanted a true sequel to the first game, but they may be disappointed.

This just sucks. I'm sure it'll come out at some point, just not as soon as most would like. Bayonetta has such an amazing fighting system. One of the deepest i've come across in a long time. I really hope they find a way to get this game back into production. As Bebe said we need Bayo 2!!!

Was the first one worth playing? Tried the demo briefly. Didn't get a feel for the game and just sorta passed over it.

It's not so good on PS3, the combat system gets much deeper than in the demo but the story and characters and enemies and levels are all pretty blah.

Well this bites. Hopefully either Sega will revisit this decision or some one else will pick up the game. I liked the fighting engine and the weird story, lol.

This is sad news :( I really enjoyed the first game but I still haven't finished it. This is one that I actually played on the X360 way back. I will pick Bayonetta up on the PS3 at some point and finally finish it.

On a side note I am almost done with Resistance 2! Really an epic game! Love it more than the first. One thing, it is a tough game as it is really challenging me. Looking forward to Resistance Burning Skies!

Yes, I will be getting that right away after I beat R2. I am just really looking forward to RBS! So, the way it looks I won't be playing RBS until June. Playing Uncharted 3 MP and dealing with that addiction. Mortal Kombat Vita today and StarHawk on the 8th. I won't be able to get to R3 probably until the end of the month. So much gaming goodness! I am so happy right now :)

I'm mildly confused, if Sega is just the publisher why would their restructuring destroy this Platinum game?

I wasn't down with the first very much (great music though) but I'd like to try a second game as Anarchy Reigns and Metal Gear Rising are looking and sounding bad.

I would have bought this, but what now is on Sega's slate of big games? Yakuza 5? And that's it. I don't have much faith in the latest Sonic game to be announced and the Olympics... Yeah.

Poor Sega, don't they know a '2' invariably draws bigger numbers.

Bayonetta was a dmc killer for sure. Sick game sure deserves a sequel. I had it for my 360. Would love see a sequel made and hopefully the ps3 wont get stiffed over shoddy port i like the ps3 controller better for these types of games.

bayonetta is one of the most over rated games out there!
boring repetitive gameplay, confusing inconsistent story and really frustrating sad slutty characters.
i dont mind a little cheese but theres a line, you cant make a whole video game character and her whole point is walking around in scant tight leather with her air bags hanging out.

one thing ill never understand.
people complain about duke nukems humour and the way it portrays women, but then other games do things FAR worse and its fine.
this with a scant leather skinned slut and shadows of the damned with the main character which dialogue contains 99% of ball jokes.
its like saying this water at 200 degrees is too hot, but this water at 500 degrees is fine.
WTF!?
