Call Of Duty: Black Ops II Trailer: "The Future Is Black"

The official trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops II is finally here, and Treyarch is bringin' the action from just about every possible angle.

You'll spot about ten gajillion machines in this trailer, ranging from futuristic mechs to various aircraft to "old-school" stuff like helicopters, motorcycles, and even some horses.

There's no doubt that the developers aren't pulling any punches with this year's CoD effort, although perhaps the use of an old engine is noticeable... At any rate, fans of the franchise are probably looking forward to new details, which are destined to start arriving at a rapid clip. We know it's the year 2025 and the "21st Century Cold War" is in full effect; technology has advanced at a frightening rate and now, it's like one all-out war. Nuts.

Maybe the campaign will be well worth playing; we enjoyed the Black Ops single-player adventure, and we're counting on Treyarch to provide us with yet another satisfying experience. Of course, multiplayer is always where it's at with this series, so that information will be paramount for the majority of fans. Still, we have this silly old-fashioned desire for great single-player campaigns...yeah, we're dinosaurs.

Well, i guess i just got overhyped from the very-different-from-what-i-expected trailer. To be honest i think i saw horses there. Maybe its just me. Horses in CoD?

I just think that because of CoD, anything releasing 3 months before and 3 months after Black Ops 2 will be in some deep trouble. Thus creating competition, and competition is a good thing anywhere any day.

I applaud treyarch for actually trying something different...ish. I dig the setting, but honestly did anyone else think the textures on the robots and most everything looked really low resolution?

I might buy this if I hear wonderful things about Zombie mode. I honestly think Treyarch is better than infinity ward, I have enjoyed there CoDs way more than infinity wards except for the original 3 that they did. CoD 1, 2, and 4 were excellent. I liked world at war, and really liked black ops because I love conspiracy stories and the cold war setting. Also thought they handled multiplayer way better and in a more balanced way than any of the MW games post MW1.

Treyarch's better than Infinity Ward now.... not MW2 Infinity Ward.

Does anyone else see this trailer and think Metal Gear ? Seems to me, similar to MG4 with the tech and weapons. Just saying.

Really? I think that MW2 was when everything started going down hill for infinity ward. But to each there own.

I really liked the original Black Ops. As much as I rip on CoD and in general don't like the series anymore, I think that MW1, Black ops, and CoD2 are actually pretty good games.

Pre-MW2 Infinity Ward was the real team. A little after launch of MW2 was when the founders and most of the team left. Thats all I was saying.

My favorite COD of late was World at War.... made by Treyarch.

I have to say that trailer looks ridiculous to me. CoD as a sci fi shooter? I don't think that's going to work. Looks like it's trying to co-opt Ghost Recon or Metal Gear Solid.

Its easy to say when you're not a CoD fan anyways. For those that are it could be a different view than your's. At the very least, it's a different take, than the usual setting.

Metal Gear 4, exactly.... only without the badass-ness of Solid Snake. Honestly FPS war gaming is like naming a band nowadays.... all the good stuff is taken. Although.... every now and then you find a good one.

So it's damned if they do damned if they don't? People, like yourself, want it to change or evolve and when Treyarch, puts a spin on the setting you "dont see this as a fit"?

I'll admit this isn't anything ground breaking, but when all people complain about is it's to much of the same, this approach should be appreciated, at the very least.

Changing the setting to the future is a cop-out because they have no new ideas to keep their gameplay interesting, a winner would be an improvement on the game's original goals: to put you into the boots of a black ops operative. Sequels should do what the originals did only better, not go off on a barely-related tangent.

Like I said it's always something. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

I think they're trying some new things worth recognizing, that some people are not willing to. Like the branching storyline and missions, the futuristic type setting. This could ease up on the linear type roller coaster ride that most shooters are anyways. It could also produce a great way to tell stories in shooters which most don't have a great strength in either.

what is everyone so excited about horses for? For Christ sake go ride a real one xD. Anyways this trailer has me confused O_o? I mean how is the MP gonna be, is it gonna be about who has the best robots or whateva. Is this game gonna have the future guns that the government have in there whereabouts. This is like Terminator meets Black Ops lol. China vs USA i guess this is actually possible in the near future xD

really surprised with this i was expecting this to be very similar to the original black ops.
i think they have made a BIG mistake calling this black ops 2!
this looks NOTHING like it!
yes theres levels that take place closer to the time black ops does but apparently the majority of the game will be set in the future setting and the gameplay could not be more different to the original!
looks awesome, bout bloody time treyarch came to the 21st century!

I actually think this a step in the right direction CoD needed. Supposedly it's being written by the guy who co-wrote the dark knight, and offers "branching" missions with objectives you could actually fail and still be able to profess the story with a different outcome then someone else. That's EXACTLY what the campaign needed to break the linearity. Also set in the very near future with a very believable story (cyber terrorism, China is a huge world power hoarding ''raw earths').

People who don't like the series of course won't like the trailer, but after skipping on MW3, Activision actually has my interest again

I have seen some interviews and I have always liked the guys at Treyarch. I feel like being the underdogs they actually try and go out of their way to make improvements on the franchise.

Branching stories is a cool addition for a Call of Duty game, and I like that they are covering so many different time periods.

I am actually really happy with how they are actually trying to push what they do well to new heights. Zombies is supposed to be bigger and more ambitious, and while this could be a load of crap I love zombies and hope they aren't hyping this up.

The part that please me the most is the attention they are giving to the PC crowd, and e-sports. This is an amazing thing for the game. Giving pc users Dx11 options and server support really shows that they know what PC gamers want. But the best part of all of this is the e-sport part. Wanting to be a part of this means that the multiplayer has to be extremely balanced and skill based.

I may rip on CoDs for coming out every year and not doing anything different but considering how much I enjoyed black ops and what Treyarch is promising, I might pick this up for the PC providing they deliver.

I think it's amusing, the amount of people that keep saying the series needs to change. Then as you pointed out the setting goes in a different direction and those people now complain it's not going to work. Well what do you want from them then? Is my question.

Regardless I play every type of genre out there, I like all my games, so it's a win win for me. I just like the argument, because like you said "haters gone hate".

Ummm, the near future setting isn't something new. Besides that it'll probably be the standard CoD fare of a 6 hour campaign and extensive multiplayer. The most we can expect is a few new guns, attachments and vehicle sequences.

I say a few because new military firearms are fairly rare and slow to develop, the US is still using a modified 50 year old weapon. Also the vehicle parts are most likely going to be onrail shooting sections with some over powerful weapon.

Then again, CoD isn't known for realism and they might surprise me and completely change, add a lot to gameplay and greatly increase the campaign length.

I gotta be honest..that was the best CoD trailer I've seen since the 1st MW. I may actually get CoD this year..Although I thought we'd get more of a sequel to BO as I liked that story..but we shall see..

I got to give it to them. This one looks pretty badass... Also, give the whole engine/graphics thing a rest people. I think gaming has finally come to a point all of it is gorgeous! "Aesthetics" are essentially more important anyways. Time for the gaming industry to just focus more on gameplay.

Maybe Treyarch doesn't quite understand the current gen of consoles? All I know is that I like what I see and I once again find myself playing the 6 month waiting game :( Cannot wait for this!
