Activision Formally Announces "The Most Ambitious CoD Ever"
The debut trailer is already here, and now we've got the official press release.
Set in the year 2025 in what is called a "21st Century Cold War," Call of Duty: Black Ops II boasts advanced weaponry, robotics, and drone warfare, along with "new graphics technology," branching storylines and non-linear missions for the single-player campaign. In short, "the most groundbreaking and visceral" CoD experience yet.
This is no joke. Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg calls this new entry "the most ambitious Call of Duty ever." His statement is bold and plenty encouraging:
"We are bringing disruptive innovation to the franchise and we are doing it on several fronts. We're pushing the boundaries technologically, graphically, and from a narrative and gameplay perspective. At the same time, we need to stay true to the epic realism, authenticity, heart pumping adrenaline, and cinematic action that so many people love and expect from a Call of Duty game. Treyarch's vision for Call of Duty: Black Ops II will redefine the Call of Duty franchise for the future--both literally and figuratively."
Treyarch boss Mark Lamia added that Black Ops II will deliver something fans of the franchise "have never seen before." He says we should expect a solid and entertaining campaign, which will feature a "thought-provoking story" and even a few "meaningful choices" that should affect the outcome (a little RPG goodness, eh?). As for the multiplayer, Lamia says it will embrace "all skill levels and play styles," which should expand the already vast reach of the franchise's online appeal. Finished Lamia:
"With Call of Duty: Black Ops II, we're all in and we won't rest until we've launched nothing less than the best Call of Duty we've ever made."

Killzone 3 is my bench mark for shooters. If Activision are proporting that a new engine is in the offing, then just maybe, they will have something I am interested in.
With Dust514 coming out, and the next Battlefield to be announced, there is still much disruptive competition for CoD... therefore it is going to have to be something very very special indeed...
