Capcom: Dragon's Dogma Boasts 300 Hours Of Gameplay

It's Capcom's attempt to create something like Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls, so role-playing fanatics should be intrigued.

During a recent Guardian interview, producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi offered up a few encouraging details:

Firstly, he said this title features "the biggest map we've created in a Capcom game." He elaborated by saying if you walk around the coastline of the world, it'll take "four to five hours." Secondly, he says the campaign will take around 50 hours to complete, but the adventure offers up to "300 hours" if one tackles all the side quests and does everything available.

Interestingly enough, Bethesda made the same estimate for last year's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The cool part is that Capcom is obviously trying to break free of their mold, as Dragon's Dogma is clearly a new type of game for them. Said Kobayashi:

"I'm glad you think it doesn't sound like a regular Capcom title. We wanted to try something new, and break into this open-world RPG genre, but of course include all the Capcom elements that we have in a lot of our games."

Well, we wish them luck on that. We're just not sure if we can squeeze in another Skyrim-sized game...not everyone has months and months of free time, ya know.

Im happy Capcom created a new ip thats different from their other games. Dragon's Dogma is day one for sure.. I really like how you can climb on the enemies because in most rpg wheter its western or japanese its usually pick a body part to attack.

Yes that climbing on the bigger enemies without it being those dreadful QTE clips really is a very nice touch indeed.

Demo looked promising, and for any fantasy rpg-fan this should be a no-brainer. For me though, I'm not sure if I can handle one more dragon themed game with companions speaking old style english... I just don't know.

This looks like a great game. I hope it does well even though I am down on Capcom these days. However, I am going to have to wait on this one. I have KoAR and Skyrim to go through yet. I will more than likely get this with a great discount.

I have a question:

What IS the "Family Filter," exactly? What does it do? How does one turn it on?

It's probably a filter that filters out profanity and stuff, making it children and Highlander friendly (Sorry I couldn't resist High;)). That's why you have to choose an alternative, listed name for your characters, to avoid naughty names when filter is on I guess.

I've got the demo on my PS3 but I've been entranced by the classic JRPG goodness of Tales of Graces F.

I pre-ordered this game, I hope it's not a mistake. I'm scared they will announce all sorts of on disc DLC. I would wait but really there is nothing coming out in the next couple months that I want and if I don't get it now this will turn into something I never get.

I pray they don't release a super, edition of Dragons Dogma in 6 months :P

Gameplay wise, the Demo is awesome! It reminds me of Dark souls, mixed with some elements of Lost planet 2. I just really wish they had put in some sort of co-op into the game, as it just seems like a perfect fit.... oh dear lord if co-op is DLC I will give up gaming and take up farming or something.

Might as well do the real thing and become self sustaining. Instead of playing farmville and waking up one day to realize I spent 5124$ one month feeding my virtual cows....

Had this been a coop game I'd go from bargain buy to day 1 purchase in a snap.

I tried the demo and couldn't get into it. I liked the atmospheric feel and somewhat Tolken'ish vibe I felt from it's presentation, but I dunno. Liked it better than Amular 'nuff said

If demons souls and shadow of the colossus had a baby. Dragons Dogma would be the result:)

Question, when your making a character on the demo it gives you a choice for a name and says "This will be visible to the other players online" Does that mean its co-op? If it is im deff buying it day one. Thanks to anyone who can help me out. I talked to a few GS employees and they weren't sure but because of the whole name thing for online they said most likely it will be.

no it isn't co-op, other players can borrow your pawn and that is about it. But with that said, it doesn't explain why you would have to give your main character a family filter name...

This is just an upgraded Monster Hunter Title. I really don't understand why people always compare it with something else. Getting this day 1! Too bad that they did not add coop in a game clearly built for it. Me and my friends were excited at the thought of joining up once again in slaying gigantic beasts.

I am hoping I can scrounge up the money to pick this up D1, but if not I will still be getting it eventually. The way you can merc out your pawns and then get tips from them if the person who used them fought something you didn't is a great idea, I can't wait to see how this plays out.

Go Capcom! Its good to see that some big players are still pushing new IP and not stagnating into milking the same formula.... I hope CoD will suffer the same fate as Guitar Hero :P

So.... i think im picking up this game lol
